I Wasted Thousands on Fragrances. Here’s What I Learned.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkvHq3GC9FI&t=309s This video by Frag Yap really hit home because I have made many of these mistakes myself. When you first get heavily involved in fragrances, it is easy to confuse buying with collecting. You chase deals, blind-buy hyped releases, and purchase several alternatives while trying to avoid paying for the fragrance you actually wanted. I went through a heavy clone phase and accumulated several hundred of them. Some were good, but many became bottles I rarely wore and now practically cannot give away. In some cases, I would have been better off saving that money and buying the original from the beginning. However, I still believe clones have a place when the original is grossly overpriced, discontinued, or performs poorly. The key is buying them strategically—not simply because they are cheap. The strongest point in this video is knowing what you already own. Two fragrances may have completely different notes but still serve the same purpose in your collection. Before buying another fresh fragrance, date-night scent, or tobacco fragrance, ask whether it does something better or is meaningfully different from what you already have. I also agree with sampling whenever possible, purchasing the appropriate bottle size, and exchanging samples with other collectors. A lower price per milliliter is not a bargain if most of the bottle will never be worn. With a large collection, 30 or 50 ml is often more practical than another 100 ml bottle. The real lesson is not that everyone should stop buying fragrances. It is that we should buy with intention. A collection should represent what you genuinely enjoy wearing—not every bargain, new release, or bottle the internet convinced you that you needed. Video on top. Love to know your opinions? I happen to agree with his assessment.
Fragrance Review - Guerlain L'Heure Bleue
The fragrance opens with a delicate cloud of powdery white florals, balanced by a crisp freshness that gives the composition an elegant, almost ethereal quality. The impression is polished and graceful—powdered petals carried on cool, clean air. At around 15 minutes, the powderiness begins to soften, allowing the fresher white florals to become more luminous. By 30 minutes, a subtle touch of vanilla emerges, wrapping the florals in a smooth, creamy sweetness. At around 60 minutes, vanilla and musk move into the foreground, creating a soft, sensual warmth while iris adds a refined powdery texture. The transformation from fresh florals into creamy sweetness feels seamless and beautifully composed. The dry down settles into an intimate blend of creamy vanilla, soft musk, and powdery iris, with the white florals lingering delicately in the background. Silken and graceful, the composition leans distinctly feminine to my nose, with its floral-gourmand character emphasizing softness and elegance. Overall, this is a beautifully composed journey from powdery white florals into creamy vanilla, musk, and iris. Elegant and refined, although its distinctly floral-gourmand personality falls slightly outside my personal scent preferences. Performance: Projection is good, creating approximately a two-foot scent bubble for over two hours. Sillage is equally solid, leaving a three-foot scent trail for over two hours. Longevity falls around 6–7 hours, becoming a skin scent at approximately the 3.5-hour mark. My Rating: 6.5/10
