Weekly Wear log
I thought Id try the weekly SOTD log post since I havent been completing daily SOTD posts, so here we go. Thanks to and for three of the wears this week!
Penhaligon's Halfeti - A high quality oriental aromatic. Green, creamy nutmeg, leather/oud, and spicy amber. Very well blended and high quality. Performance is strong. I wore this to work, spraying 5 total sprays and when one of my folks walked in they asked what new cologne I was wearing as they could smell it all the way down the hall coming up to the office. Not wife approved sadly. Not FB worthy, but I may get a 10mL to have at my disposal.
PDM Sedley - Good quality, but I don't get the spearmint or sprite profile I've heard talked about time and time again. A versatile and fresh scent. Its aromatic with a slight herbal/floral aspect. Performance is good lasting 6-7 hours.
Zaharoff Signature Pour Homme - A classy, balanced and mature gentlemanly scent. Its clean lavender, spicy myrrh, and woody sandalwood. You could wear this year round, but maybe not in the highest heat of the summer. Performance was acceptable. It lasted 7 hours, projecting nicely for the first hour or so. This one didn't grab me, but you could do much worse. It was neither wife approved or nor disapproved. I got a sample set from the house to try out the signature line, so more to come.
Hellenist Les Dieux aux Bains - This falls in my comfort scent category. My number one is Sailing day, but this is one I've been reaching for too. This is a light and fragile fragrance. Very calming and pleasing. Clean, aquatic, and aromatic. Its airy, watery and clean...it reminds me of a lighter Pacific Rock Flower. I think its a very 'French' type of house, if you know what I mean. This is unisex, not leaning fem or masculine. Performance is hard for me to gauge. It has ambroxian, which I think makes it disappear to my nose. I get whiffs, and can smell it when I put my nose in my wrist but its not strong. Lasts some hours, hard to tell thus far as I need more testing. I really enjoy it when I smell it. I also have a sample set from the house to try out the rest of their offerings.
Penhaligon's Bold Blend - I received this 10mL when I purchased Luna for my wife last month at Disney World. Its a dry green mint gin style opening (not overly minty), slightly spicy, that moves into a non-feminine floral (Violet leaf and clary sage) that's anchored by the underlying palo santal and cypress. Very clean, polished, high quality, and well blended. Its versatile and I would wear this in all but outdoors high heat. Also wife approved. Most definitely FB worthy.
Naughton & Wilson Bon Viveur - Thanks to I was able to sample this fragrance. Spicy citrus chypre with an underlying clove presence. Quality is good and is well blended. Subtle and clean. A modern manly gentleman's scent. Performance was good at 7-8 hours, projecting for the first two hours though not massively. Not wife approved. Not FB worthy due to my wife not approving of it.
MMM Replica Sailing Day - One of my comfort scents...I wear this typically in the evening or after a shower to relax. Its just great. Aquatic, airy, aromatic, very slightly floral from the rose but not prevalent. Blended well, with seaweed/ambergris and woods carry the base. Performance is decent lasting 6 hours and projecting for the first hour, perfect for the application. Projects more in the heat. This is my current number one aquatic in my collection.
Armani Acqua di Gio EDT - What can I say about this that hasn't been said already. Its a staple and easy reach for the warm weather. I wore this while helping my son move on Sunday. I wanted something that was good for the heat but not offensive in any way. Performance is 5-6 hours and with fair projection, more in the heat. Its fresh, uplifting, inexpensive and just a great all around fragrance.
Amouage King Blue - Another sample thanks to . A very wearable and versatile Amouage offering. It has a misleading name, as its not a traditional blue fragrance. Its sweet fruit, woods, and an elegant oud providing a good contrast. It is high quality and well blended. This is STRONG! Three sprays are plenty, and two of those were under my dress shirt. Good projection (massive in the first two hours) and sillage; performance is massive lasting 13+ hours. I get black currant/slight orange combo, amber, saffron (not a listed note), and oud with subtle suede/incense in the first two hours. Smells great in the air and funky up close. My wife complimented it right away, but agreed it doesn't smell that good on skin. This doesn't smell fecal or like a barnyard. FB worthy, but due to the performance of this beast Ill likely just get a 10mL for now.
Givency L'Enfant Terrible - This sample is thanks to . Opens with a spicy citrus, where the ginger and bergamot are blending together. The black tea is carrying the two along, and the labdanum is the base providing a warm and grounding presence to which they are all riding. Its slightly soapy, but not at the forefront, but is a tad 'perfumy' though not enough to turn me off of it. This reminds me of a mix of Imagination and L'Immensite. Not as bright and soapy as Imagination, and not as spicy and rich as L'Immensite. A good mix, but the labdanum is what sets it apart from the LV's. Good projection and sillage but not overwhelming. Very put together and professional, maybe slightly more than L'Immensite and for sure more than Imagination. Needs more wears to determine how Id proceed bottle wise. Im firmly in the L'Immensite camp, and this would have to knock that one off the pedestal.
