SOTD: PDM Dorval
I ordered directly off PDM’s website and they gave me overnight delivery, came in yesterday afternoon so wore last night and then again today to have a solid couple wearing before reporting. I listened to a few others reviews and I’m not getting the same vibe as what they did.
First, this is one of the best blind buy success of the year for me. I love PDM style scents and only really have one that I don’t care for and even that one isn’t a total miss. To me, this isn’t really reminiscent of anything in the PDM lineup, and I own all of them. If I were to compare it to a PDM, just the initial spray has a burst of pepper and bergamot that slightly resembles Castely but is fleeting. Like barely worth mentioning the opening.
This is a mid and base heavy fragrance on my skin. I also would not classify this as only a fall winter fragrance at all. I think you could pull this off all year, it’s in the 90’s today and I went outside to grill wings for my lunch and it wasn’t coying at all, not saying this would be my top pick for a hot summer day but I’ve predominantly been indoors and it works if your in and out in summertime just as well as I’d assume in fall winter.
How it smells:
The main vibe I get is creamy, resinous not overly sweet but, the sweetness does comes through with vanilla and tonka and ever so slightly and I mean slightly smoky. Not like a tobacco Smokey, somewhere between smelling someone toast almonds to a fancy wood chips that you’d put on a smoker but don’t buy this thinking it has a heavy Smokey quality, it just gives the wearer a slight bit of mystery.
I think it leans masculine but a confident woman could pull this off. It’s not overly loud but lasts quite awhile and gives me a nice scent bubble. The closest thing I have in my collection to compare is something like Channel Allure home Sport Extreme , but it doesn’t smell like that, just has a similar feeling. Where CAHSE takes the creamy texture and adds freshness, this takes a similar creamy texture and goes in a deeper, darker direction.
If we’re to suggest a fictional character who would wear this as a signature scent, it would be Thomas Crown the Pierce Bronson version like when he is dressed down but looks better than most guys dressed up in his white button down half buttoned.
This is how I’d describe it in bullet points and how it feels to me wearing it:
Creamy vanilla → sensual
Tonka → warm masculine sweetness
Skin-balm texture → intimate
Touch of smoke → mystery
Not overly loud → effortless confidence
