Match #39

Match #39 features two standout dark, rich fragrances that have me looking forward to cooler weather: Boss Bottled Absolu versus Maison Margiela Replica Jazz Club.

Boss Bottled Absolu (2024, created by Annick Ménardo and Suzy Le Helley) comes out of the bottle bold and powerful, but quickly settles into a terrific blend of leather, patchouli, smoky incense, myrrh, and woods. It's dark, commanding, and has outstanding performance without remaining overwhelming throughout the wear.

Jazz Club (2013, created by Aliénor Massenet) is equally distinctive but takes a completely different route. Tobacco, rum, vanilla, pink pepper, and woods create that wonderfully boozy, smoky atmosphere its name promises. Like the Boss, the opening makes a statement before the drydown becomes smoother and more inviting.

These are both staying in my collection, and I'm ready for fall to arrive so I can start wearing them regularly again. But side by side, Boss Bottled Absolu has a little more depth and keeps pulling my attention back to it.

Boss Bottled Absolu takes the victory and advances to the quarterfinals, while Jazz Club drops into the second-chance bracket.
