How far we have come!
I guess I come from what is called old school. At my gym I use to be called Little Frank, after a darn good bodybuilder, I’ll leave that to your imagination! I use to train females and males for fitness competitions. When I first started observing what fitness athletes would do in off season and watch them go through the phases of cutting I noticed several things, one they eat so much of anything to bulk up then as they would start cutting up phase they be lifting heavy but drastically cutting calories to the detriment of losing the muscle gains along with weightlifting becoming very flat! So I, at this time realized food needed to be used rightly and that in order to win they needed to do that in the off season. So I used a formula based on Protein, Carbs and fat, I broke carbs down into 2 categories fibrous and starchy. So in the off season to bulk up I’d change the ratio of fibrous carbs to starchy carbs. Then I realized going into the cutting phase a 1:1 ratio would allow a caloric deficit which would still show flatness in performance the longer this phase went. During this time I was very fortunate to of had the opera unity of meeting a gentleman who used MTC oil which is a good fat that durns like a carb. I also learned that not all MCT oil is the same. This allowed me to take a client to a 1:1 ratio clean up the eating by way higher fibrous carbs add the MCT oil and not only maintain heavy lifting but depleted the subcutaneous layer of fat allowing the skin to lay right on the muscle! I tablespoon of the MTC oil allowed me to add 112 calories and still cut. I had some clients on up to 10,000 calories. I personally at 3% to 4% body fat could only get up to eating 6000 calories daily. See every individual is unique! I won’t get into the measuring of water in to water out other then to mention it here! I’ll share first experience with politics in competition. I trained a woman in Columbus, Ohio and she won second in her class but get this she took over all show! We talked afterwards and it turned out a judge judging her class didn’t care for her! I also told Tony I’d share a crazy near death experience of someone wanting to compete way back had been told that injecting coke into that subcutaneous layer could deplete all the water and look super cute, almost died! As the title say we have come a long way. But imagine going forward and using some of this old school knowledge with today’s interesting peptides and such big big big! Just think having med beds that scan you and show you deficiencies in nutrients and suggest how to use peptides and nutrition to keep us healthier long, I mean quality life and active well into our 100’s, pretty exciting huh? Thanks!
