Fighting the "yeah, but..."
Good morning/afternoon/evening my teammates...just completed my morning check-in with myself and I noticed I am struggling with the "Evil Yeah-buts" right now. For example: "I've done really well to shed some fat...yeah, but there's more to go and it's the stubborn bit." Or "Those decline presses James prescribed are feeling great...yeah, but I still have saggy moobies..." Or "I get to go see some nice patients today...yeah, but the paperwork...uggggghhh."
To be clear, I am not looking for more pats on the back in the comments. I'm simply acknowledging what's coming up for me and putting it out there because I suspect pretty much the entire group will identify with this tendency. Most of us are hard-wired to focus on the negative because that's what kept us alive when we were hunters and gatherers living in caves...but it doesn't serve us all that well these days.
I'm working on noticing these thoughts when they come up, pausing, and replacing the thought with something positive and based in fact. Anyone else struggling with this? Have you found strategies that work to quell the naysayer living in your head?
Have a great weekend and keep up the good work!
