Injury, rest and recovery
I don’t see many people talking about this and I thought I’d bring it up as I’ve sustained some type of shoulder injury. It’s a niggle of a pain and can be pretty sharp I.e if I bend down to turn the radiator off / on I get the sharp pain in my shoulder / right side under arm pit. I’ve had the last couple of days off so 3 in total but for me that’s shit and I’m kinda worried about loosing my muscle I’ve already built (I know ) I’ve not even done any cardio or walking either. One thing that has helped is dosing BPC in a morning. After an hour or so that niggle goes. So gonna dose first thing and last thing at night. Only had to have painkillers once and that was paracetamol. So my question to everybody. How do you cope with not being able to do much. Is there anything you do. As it’s all kinda new for me being a gym cat 🤣. Can somebody explain a good recovery program or what do you do to recover Cheers

@Stuie Bee it can but on the concentric part you aren't as strong, so it will highlight any areas of weakness or imbalance.

@Stuie Bee I don't know why any doc would prescribe that garbage NSAIDs 🤢 prostaglandin suppression, gut irritation, kidney stress, blood pressure effects, or CNS side‑effects

A bit more reading 😁 DEFINITION AND OVERVIEW Creatine (chemically known as methylguanidine-acetic acid, N-(aminoiminomethyl)-N-methylglycine, or C4H9N3O2) is a naturally occurring, non-protein amino acid derivative. First isolated from beef in 1832 by the French chemist Michel Eugène Chevreul, it is now one of the most extensively researched and scientifically validated nutritional ergogenic aids in the world. It is an organic acid synthesized endogenously by the human body and obtained exogenously through the diet, primarily from animal muscle meats like beef, pork, poultry, and fish (such as herring and salmon). To obtain the amount of creatine found in a standard supplement scoop (about 5 grams), an individual would need to consume approximately 1.3 kilograms (nearly 3 pounds) of beef or six chicken breasts. Because of this, supplementation is highly popular. The body’s total creatine pool for an average 70 kg adult is around 120 to 140 grams. Approximately 95% of this pool is stored in skeletal muscle tissue—roughly 66% as phosphocreatine (PCr) and 33% as free creatine. The remaining 5% is distributed among highly metabolically active tissues, including the brain, heart, liver, kidneys, and testes. The supplement market offers numerous variations and sub-types of creatine, though clinical evidence heavily favors one specific form: - Creatine Monohydrate (CrM): The absolute gold standard of creatine supplements. It consists of a creatine molecule bound to a water molecule, making it about 88% pure creatine by weight. It boasts nearly 100% bioavailability, is exceptionally safe, and is the cheapest form available (costing around $0.05 to $0.12 per day). - Creatine Hydrochloride (HCl): Creatine bound with hydrochloric acid. It is highly soluble in water and is marketed as requiring a smaller dose (e.g., 750 mg) while causing less stomach bloating. However, human outcome data do not show superior performance or higher muscle saturation compared to monohydrate, and it costs significantly more. - Creatine Ethyl Ester (CEE): Marketed for superior bioavailability by attaching an ester group to make it more fat-soluble. Research actually shows it is chemically unstable in the body and degrades rapidly into the waste product creatinine rather than being absorbed by muscle, making it inferior to monohydrate. - Buffered Creatine (Kre-Alkalyn): Monohydrate with added alkaline powder (like magnesium) to raise the pH, marketed to prevent breakdown in stomach acid. Clinical trials explicitly conclude it does not promote greater retention or performance than standard monohydrate. - Creatine Nitrate: Binds creatine to a nitrate molecule to provide the saturation benefits of creatine along with the vasodilation (blood flow or "pump") benefits of nitrates. - Creatine ATP: A complex combining creatine monohydrate with disodium adenosine triphosphate (ATP), typically dosed at 3-5g creatine with 400mg disodium ATP. It shows promise in improving blood flow and generating strength. - Micronized Creatine: Standard monohydrate ground into particles up to 20 times smaller, improving water solubility and potentially reducing gastrointestinal discomfort or grittiness. - Liquid Creatine / Serums: Suspended in liquid, these formulations are inherently unstable and consistently break down into creatinine before consumption, rendering them largely ineffective. - Creatine Chelates (e.g., Magnesium Chelate): Binds creatine to magnesium to theoretically enhance absorption and support hydration, though evidence of superiority is lacking.
More revelations today
I had the huge privilege and pleasure to be educated in a one to one with Shaun today. Before my self inflicted and protracted hiatus from training, I trained for 28 years. Today, I realised how little I knew. Have Shaun explain, demonstrate and coach on scapula plane was an absolutely brilliant experience. I have never felt muscle contractions like it in my entire life. The supine straight arm lat pullover was a new one to me and utterly burned my lats in a few reps. The lat pull down lesson was remarkable. The contraction in the lats was out of the world. He also correct my dumbbell over head press position and removed my perennial shoulder pain from the movement. I know that the phrase ‘game changer’ is bandied around left right and centre, but today was a game changer for me. In the unlikely event that you have any reservations about Shaun’s methods, disregard them. What a remarkable few hours with a truly old school and lovely bloke.
