RPE Scale 1-10
@Russ Walker On the RPE (1-10) scale what should we be aiming for when doing the beginners Pilates session exercises?

@Antoni Krolik great question Not Entirely sure . A week minimum and a month maximum I’d say. I have to be careful I don’t overindulge and use the time I actually need more than I want , but it’s ok to have some indulgence too and I think that it’s good for you in measure or exercise becomes your master and you become its slave and then the fun is gone People have different views on rest or deloading I say at least one day off every 7 days One week off or deload every 7 weeks And one month or deload off every 7 months As a rough guide But not many will do that coz we get addicted and think we are going to lose everything we have gained haha I will lose strength with a week or two off but I’m ok with that . I can build it back up. I’m ok with losing a bit of muscle too.

@Antoni Krolik thanks mate There’s a story of a boy who came for a piano lesson . He just slammed the side of his head down onto the keys The teacher looked shocked , but the mother reassured her , oh it’s normal for him , he just plays it by ear. 😁🎹
Contract-Relax
@Russ Walker or anyone. Wondering what your thoughts are on 'contract-relax' stretching? Or can be been called 'PNF'. Do you think it is more effective than static stretching?

From 4 years ago on Reddit “ Anyone achieved a front split? One of my goals is to be able to do front splits on both sides. Ben has demonstrated that he can do a splits on both legs without warming up. He claims that he can do this solely by mainting his depth and strength in both his ATG split squat and his Single Leg romanian deadlift. I find it quite hard to believe as most front splits programs have an abundance of stretching. Has anyone achieved them solely from this program ? or do you do addiotonal stretching? “

Magnesium
@Russ Walker a quick question. I remember you saying you took a magnesium supplement, curious to know what type and where from if you don't mind?

@Russ Walker that’s interesting I went through a phase of rubbing castor oil on my skin . The idea came from a dvd called “elastic steel “ . It was about stretching /strength/conditioning Not sure how legit it all was though as there was less accessible science and reviewing /debunking /challenging around or available

@Antoni Krolik my trainer was recommending it for better sleep But I’ve managed to improve it with a new mattress and Apple Watch monitoring my sleep patterns I’ve also been using one EarPod/earbud thing and falling asleep to the sound of heavy rain/thunder. This blocks out the wife snoring , son gaming , the neighbours motorbike at 6-7am, loud packs of seagulls, neighbours being loud in the morning etc etc. 🫨😁 But I would prefer not to get too dependent on these things and just go to sleep but there are certainly lots of challenges We live in extreme overcrowding right now and I sleep in the living room. I moved back upstairs when more space became available but the first thing I noticed other than all the new noises and light was I was much hotter so I went and got a cheap 1 tog duvet from Argos which is the thinnest you can get. Also looked into wool duvets which are interesting But now I’m back downstairs as my sleep quality was suffering Still might be worth trying the magnesium supplements though and I guess it will have more benefits than just sleep quality

Hydration
Curious about what every one is drinking to keep hydrated. I'm not to keen on just plain tap water. Maybe if something sugar free could added to flavour it. At the moment I drink tap water first thing in the morning and then it's white tea with one sweetener umpteen times for the rest of the day. Anyone any suggestions?

I’ve become a big fan of sparkling water Cold or lukewarm it doesn’t matter but cold is better I used to hate the stuff and drank tap water or tap water with ice , but then I don’t know what happened. I tried it again for whatever reasons and fell in love with it. It’s also good for feeling more full when trying to lose fat. Now I don’t like tap water that much I stopped drinking fizzy drinks like coke years ago(funnily enough my wife’s grandad I think was vice president) but will have the occasional sprite or lemonade . I love full fat milk and find it very satisfying. Good protein source and good for recovery from exercise . I’m on the semi skimmed at the moment to save some calories while losing fat The “how much water do we need” is an interesting one that I’m yet to figure out. Good to keep researching and balance current science with personal experience. There is probably a too much and a too little , so the truth is somewhere in between I’ve done a lot of water fasting over the years and found that I felt I needed surprisingly less than you’d think . But I’m sure everybody’s body is different aswell as the climate they are in A lot of factors I guess like how much calories your burning , how much you sweat , types of food , amount of food , etc
