D-1, whole boat, standby.
It is today... I'm getting on a plane! Race weekend has finally arrived. Missed training on Monday because work demands, and you do what you need to do. We had our final training on Tuesday - just few rounds of drills, and it was a really good session. Is the team ready? As ready as we'll ever be. I went to the gym on Wednesday after work; the same full body workout but light weights. There were a lot of people, either doing super heavy or super sets. It's not intimidating, it's just scary when the space is small, and I'm standing that close and it just (BANG) when they drop weight on the machine. But people are friendly - and I was just vibing through. I'll share updates & videos from the race πŸ™

We talked about: - a lot of strength training strategies - taste buds changing - choosing compound or isolation exercises - creatine cycling? - low fat diets - how to get more protein - free weights vs machines Thanks for joining and living through the toddler-tantrum stress with me! β™₯️

Consistently showing up as best possible
How to survive peak season at work: caffeine, sugar, and some amount of sarcasm. The hard part is usually not the work itself, it's the people you need to deal with at work. But with all that stress and tension, I went for my workouts anyway. Special mobility class on Friday - the coach got us to very consciously engage the right muscles for the exercises. Proprioception is so interesting - when you lock in, it's so fascinating to learn what your body can do. Saturday felt so busy: breakfast with a friend and then I had an appointment with my chiropractor: with the new weekly workout balance, my fitness has gotten better, so I'm good for maintenance every 2 months now. Gotta give thanks to Coach Darren for the blueprint πŸ™ I went to my first visit to the gym; felt like a baby learning to walk on her first adventure - just a quick, light workout to get used to being in the space. Gotta get used to having the mindset that no one in the gym cares about you as long as you're not getting crushed under the weights πŸ˜… Today, for some reason, I was feeling enthusiastic(?): morning at the barre, afternoon at dragon boat - now I'm tired, sore, and sleepy af. D-6 to race day. Last training on the water will be on Tuesday, but I'll keep to light-weights on Wednesday and mobility on Thursday just for maintenance. Wherever you are, I hope you're taking care. Sending all the positive vibes, and warmest bear hugs, and love.

Honest confession: yours was the first (and only) comprehensive advice I ever got about fitness. No bullshit. Straightforward. Full transparency. Uniquely mine. It really guided me in the right direction; now I got the tools I need to forge my next path & journey to lifelong fitness.

thank you! I'm actually really excited for my next visit 😁
Is it just me ?
Do you ever find yourself thinking you could go for a large bowl of your favourite chips ? Lately I’ve found myself thinking that more often. I never actually do it but I will have 1 or 2 chips sometime. I was being good and not buying any chips for a whole 2 weeks but last weekend I ended up buying 3 large bag from Costco. My son grabs large bowls of them and goes through a bag in a couple of days. Seeing him enjoy it makes me want some even more. What do you do when you can’t stop thinking about a food?

I did before. I don't crave for chips much anymore but I'll still have some here and there. I think it'd be good to occasionally let yourself have a bit more than just 1 or 2. Calories, sure. But strict deprivation also amplifies the cravings, then you end up binging a crazy amount. The occasional indulgence is okay. My trick is portion control - pour a small amount first, go through it slowly, then decide again if I want a second portion.

Mmhm. Have a snack on the side while doing art hobbies typically ends with me doing more hobby than snacking, suddenly I'm done with the art and barely had the snack πŸ˜…
Updates & commitments
Update: DB training has been good. Skipped Sunday's training because the exhaustion from travelling got to me and I KO-ed with a light fever. Y'all who can do long road trips, big respect. Tues & Thurs sessions were good - showed up, performed: we're holding strong. D-8 to race day. PSA: never skip mobility. The stretching is magic. New things: I found these protein shakes at the store the other day - got a few flavours to try. Let's see how this goes. I signed up at my local gym - 24h access and super convenient locations for me. I've got quite a strength journey coming soon πŸ™

One painful session of guasha & a cold towel - fever broke by the next morning 😁 thanks πŸ™

Guasha is my go-to for fevers - when I feel one coming, just guasha then it'll usually break by the next day. But also, it's not meant to hurt. If you're really feverish, just gently scraping will still create the rash lines. (I have a photo somewhere - my whole back was a red artwork πŸ˜…)
