Hardest lesson🧐
What’s the hardest thing to teach in BJJ? Timing? Pressure? Grip fighting? Guard passing? Etc. As an instructor, I find teaching students how to relax and be calm is most challenging. For a few classes they’re doing great, but eventually go back to being tense. I don’t know if it’s something that can be taught, or if it’s a phase that they have to get through like we all did at one point. Curious to hear your thoughts 👊🏻

Me and my kids so far. My wife will only do women’s self defense seminars at my academy.

Welcome to Defend Yourself. Im glad you’re here. As Rickson Gracie's uke (assistant), I am lucky and grateful to be guided by the GOAT 🐐 on a daily basis. In this group I share the lessons I’ve learned over decades of martial arts training, competition, weapons training, and self defense scenarios. I encourage you to share your experience as well so that we all may learn from and support each other. Step 1: Please introduce yourself by commenting on this post. Share your rank, your martial arts experience, a photo if you like, and where you train. Step 2: Click here to enter the "Get Started Classroom."

I’m Lowell from Midland, MI. I’m a Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt under Professor Chet Schemahorn and I am the owner of Fenrir Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Bay City, MI. I had the pleasure of training with Master Rickson at the Valente Brothers in 2013. And to say it changed how I view Jiu-Jitsu an understatement. Not only in practice but in teaching the art.
Happy New Year!
I start every year by reading or listening to Atomic Habits. It can help you with everything from fitness and money to your jiu jitsu practice. Small consistent habits can accomplish so much over time. In most cases, your environment is stronger than your will. Put yourself in an environment surrounded by the people you want to become. Please let me know if there is something you do start every year. I look forward to seeing the members in this community grow on the mat and in life this year. 🙏👊💪🥷

That book is on my list. I need to breakdown and get it. I get sidetracked with other books. Another amazing read is Be Useful by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Worth the read and listen.
Happy New Year 🎆
Hey everyone, Thank you so much for being a part of this community. I am honored by your engagement and support. I started this group so that I could share what I’ve learned with people who don't have the proximity to the source that I’ve been so fortunate to have. I am truly blessed to be guided by Master Rickson on a daily basis. I trust that you have gotten something out of this trial period. I want everyone to have a place where they can feel supported by their peers and find the guidance they’re looking for. Many of you have asked for clear training paths, structure, and access to me so I am building it. More details to come.
