Focus for the week (slow down)
This week, move slowly. Not just in training. Give yourself extra time to do everything you normally do. Walk slowly around the house and in public. Breathe slowly. Reach for things slowly, blink slowly, speak slowly. Drive slowly. This is a meditation and if you struggle with anxiety it will calm your system and give you the time and presence to really tap into your senses. It’s amazing what we can accomplish with a little bit of awareness. As long as you’re not late because of it and you don’t feel more anxiety from the annoyed looks from your roommates or spouse. 😜 If this all seems too much, pick one thing and do it at 50% speed this week. Maybe eating, maybe teeth brushing….

Hardest lesson🧐
What’s the hardest thing to teach in BJJ? Timing? Pressure? Grip fighting? Guard passing? Etc. As an instructor, I find teaching students how to relax and be calm is most challenging. For a few classes they’re doing great, but eventually go back to being tense. I don’t know if it’s something that can be taught, or if it’s a phase that they have to get through like we all did at one point. Curious to hear your thoughts 👊🏻
An answer from last week's Q&A session.
During Q&A Professor James showed how to escape from cross body side control. Great details on using your shoulder position. Looking forward to learning more at Saturday's Q&A sessions.
