NEW Nova Nidra | who are you beneath it all?
Once upon a time, there was someone who moved through their days doing everything they were “supposed” to do. Life looked fine on the outside, yet inside, they felt a quiet distance from themselves. They looked for clarity in achievements, in other people’s opinions, and in striving. And in stressful moments, they confused the noise of their thoughts with the truth of who they were. But in one small moment of rest, something shifted. They remembered themselves. Through a pause that let their true nature rise again. This week, I invite you to explore that same remembering. Who are you beneath the roles you play? Who are you when you come home to yourself? If this speaks to you, share where you are in your own journey. We’re here to walk this path together. Why I feel what I feel is still a pretty darn big mystery. This is brought into sharp focus by the season I am in, very rapidly approaching the second anniversary of my wife's passing. So at this point, I'm just sitting, watching the mystery unfold. 😥
Day One | ROOT CHAKRA | to be here ❤️
Self-inquiry: Where in my life do I genuinely feel safe and supported right now? Where do I notice myself bracing, rushing, or preparing for something to go wrong? There’s nothing to change. @Ayla Nova thanks, catheter removal, uti, that’s why I left early last Wednesday, that’s when I first went to the ER. Still in recovery mode…. 🤢.
Hi Everyone!
I’m a newbie and just learning about yoga nidra or is it nidra yoga? I’m interested in the integration with brain waves theta and delta, especially for sleep 🥳

Hi @Ayla Nova of course… Hi @John Etcheverry while Yoga Nidra is an excellent tool to improve the quality of sleep, being asleep is not where the magic occurs, even though that may be what your body most needs at any given point of the practice. There are a number of ways of looking at the relationship between Yoga Nidra and sleep, while Nidra traditionally translates simply into sleep. Here are a few different contexts to keep in mind. • Physiologically: the body resembles deep relaxation or early sleep (often alpha–theta dominance). Beta is not particularly relevant in this context. • Phenomenologically: awareness is non-ordinary—not engaged in external perception, yet not unconscious. • Traditionally: it’s sometimes described as “sleep with awareness” (But Yoga Nidra is not the same as ordinary, tamasic sleep). • Experientially: it often corresponds to the borderland between hypnagogia and dreamless sleep, though advanced practice can move beyond imagery altogether. Regardless of the context, it's the liminal state between being awake and being asleep. And for therapeutic purposes, I typically refine it even further and identify it as the transition state between being awake and dreaming. Here are a couple of screen grabs of brainwave EEG charts that I find useful to illustrate the point. The first one, and I have no idea which one of the screen attachments Skool will position at the beginning, but it's the one without the red highlight box, is from one of my early alpha-theta feedback sessions with my psychotherapist, in a clinical setting, with clinical-grade equipment, you can clearly see the instances where the theta wave come into dominance over alpha, (beta is not particularly relevant in this context). What is interesting about this graph is when we were going over the results after the session, but before she showed me the graph, I outlined that I had experienced five distinct sessions of non-normal awareness corresponding precisely to the graph points where the theta is dominant over alpha. I'm a reasonably experienced meditator, so I can tell the difference between the mind wandering in meditation and the kind of semi awareness I experienced during this session.

@Brenda F the problem is that awareness is often used as a synonym for consciousness. But consciousness is already dual in that there is a subject, ie you or more precisely your awareness and an object to attention. In this case there still may be both subject and object, but the relationship is “different”. I don’t think the difference is binary, rather shades of gray and the boundary between subject and object starts to blur. Subject to the usual paradox of awareness being aware that it is aware. That is very non-ordinary.
