Neurodiversity and Coeliac!
Are there any fellow neurospicys? AuDHD, ADHD or ASD? Do you find they impact your ability to cope/function with coeliac? x

ADHD here, well for me the hyper focus led me from getting bloodwork in early December to insisting there was a better path for me than waiting a year for a scope, flying to Montreal and getting it done and getting a diagnosis in weeks rather than months. It also led me to sign up for groups and classes on celiac disease and clean my entire kitchen and in general become hyper aware and knowledgeable about celiac. I also demanded an iron infusion, a dexa scan and whatever else I needed. Honestly the worst part of my adhd is that I become so focused on one thing I forget others (ummm I was supposed to be writing report cards and missed a dental cleaning in the meantime, twice) and I’m really prone to wearing myself out. It’s a blessing and a curse.

@Mack Tavares that would make me anxious too! I’m sorry your family isn’t more aware and respectful of your needs. Does it help if you do a meal prep session? There are really nice meal prep containers and if you could get a little room in the freezer it would mean you always have safe food. I use these meal prep cubes I got where they freeze things in 1 cup portions then pack them in ziplocks. I do chili, spaghetti sauce, soups and beans I like. My whole house is gf but they are still amazing to have when I’m tired.
Different Reactions to Different Grains?
Does anyone else get different reactions?? Oddly enough my reaction have always been very mild with wheat, a very minor stomach ache, constipation, and fatigue. Barely is a whole other story, I react awful to barely. I get debilitating stomach pain, nausea, migraines, etc. I haven’t payed attention to any other grains and don’t feel like testing it out lol, but I’ve noticed I get especially bad reactions to barley.

That’s strange! I hadn’t even considered that different grains could give different levels of reaction. I suppose it makes sense though. Personally, I got diagnosed so fast after my blood test I didn’t have time to play around with it. I am reacting to even gf oats right now though as I had a gf bar that caused a reaction and I realized belatedly that it had oat flour in it.
I gave in….
I have NEVER been so excited about something gluten free, like ever 😆 I couldn’t resist any longer 🧡

That is so cute! I wish we had them in Canada.
Brain Fog
Hi all. New here!! So I've been diagnosed with celiac disease and have had brain fog for about 2 months. I went gluten free 5 weeks ago and its gotten slightly better. My question is has anyone else dealt with this and how long did it take to go completely away? I still can't drive because of it.

@Helen Blumlein I am sorry about the seizure! It’s hard to say. I like it and I feel good when I have it but of course I just went gluten free about 1.5 months ago, got an iron infusion and started saffron so….🤷🏻‍♀️ I figure once things have settled down I’ll experiment with and without it and see. I was just so desperate to get my brain back I did all the things. Oh also I’m in perimenopause so I started Quivivic and have been finally sleeping so that helps too. I can’t do hormones because of previous cancer otherwise I would.

@Helen Blumlein oh gosh! I don’t know if it will help with seizures though. I don’t have anything so serious just brain fog and I’m kinda old! I’ve tried two different Canadian brands I like but that probably won’t help if you are in another country. And also I am not very fussy, I had not had any coffee for 6 months prior so I probably forgot what it tastes like.
Cocktails 🍸
I used to have these a lot on a night out and always checked the ingredients carefully. However, I've realised the huge risk of cross-contamination (through shaker/mixer) Particularly recently wheat-based additions seem to be being added to other cocktails. Just writing to understand other's experiences and whether when you asked they could accomodate you?

The last two restaurants I went to, I let them know I was celiac and asked that they let the bar staff know and asked if they could please clean the cocktail shaker first to prevent cross contamination. They had no problem with it. This was in two sort of nicer restaurants though. I don’t know what an actual bar would be like as I haven’t been to one in years!
