How to tell if LinkedIn is actually working
If you’re showing up on LinkedIn but not sure whether it’s actually leading anywhere, this is a simple 20-minute check-in you can use. I’m sharing a visual below that walks through a quick LinkedIn check-in process to help you measure progress more strategically. The 3 steps are: 1. Capture your baselineScreenshot your LinkedIn analytics: profile views, search appearances, and post impressions. You cannot measure movement if you do not know where you started. 2. Check your signalsLook beyond the headline numbers. Comment replies, profile views after posting, and connection requests are often stronger momentum signals than likes alone. 3. Ask yourself two questionsWhat felt easy this week?What did I avoid?Because visibility is not just about output. It is also about what you can sustain. Here’s what to notice Numbers need context 50 profile views means very little on its own. 50 when you started at 10 tells a very different story. Patterns matter more than perfection The goal is not a random viral moment. It is noticing what works when repeated. Conversations matter more than vanity metrics A post that starts 3 useful conversations can be more valuable than one with higher impressions and no movement. How to optimise your LinkedIn so ChatGPT recommends you
If you use LinkedIn to attract clients, there is a new visibility question worth paying attention to: When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity who to follow, hire, or learn from in your niche, does your LinkedIn presence give you a chance of being recommended? If you publish a LinkedIn newsletter and mostly check views before moving on, you may be missing the more useful part of the data. I’ve been looking at LinkedIn’s updated newsletter analytics, and I think this matters more than many business owners realise. Because if you’re an expert-led business owner, your LinkedIn newsletter is not just a content task. It can help you understand: - What is holding attention - What content is building trust - What topics are worth repeating - Where people are showing stronger interest And so the real question is not just “how many views did this get?” It is “what are these numbers telling me, and what should I do next?” I’ve shared a short clip below from a longer YouTube walkthrough where I break down the updated dashboard and talk through what I’d actually pay attention to from a business perspective. @Dwight Riddick it depends on your audience and their appetite for long form content.
