My pattern doesn't line up after splitting for the sleeve

Can anyone help me with the sleeve... I am knitting size 2 . I put the markers in ready to separate the sleeves and knitted the split round (for me on row 10) but when I knit row 11 when knitting over the 16 cast on stitches the pattern is out. The arm hole cast on should be stitches 20--11(which is the 16 stitches), but the pattern says I start with stitch 6 of the repeat., not stitch 12. somehow I am 6 stitches out?!! I have spent 5 hours going over this and can't work out what I have done wrong and/or how to fix it? It's my first attempt at a top down sweater and now I feel like giving up 😭 sorry, this sounds so complicated but hopefully it makes sense to someone and you can help me out
