Weekly Writing Session is happening in 3 days
Hello from Kristin / Offering some encouragement and insight!
Hi everyone, I am so glad to be a part of this community. Over my years as a published author, I’ve navigated just about every twist and turn this writing life can throw at you—from the crushing weight of the blank page and imposter syndrome to the complexities of modern publishing. I'm here simply to connect, listen, and offer a hand to anyone currently struggling with their manuscript, character arcs, or the emotional ups and downs of the craft. If you are feeling stuck on a chapter, wrestling with a character's motivation, or just need a bit of encouragement today, please drop a comment below. I’d love to share whatever insights I can to help you move forward! Happy writing, Kristin
Shift in writing focus
Hello everyone! I'm Irina and I've recently joined this community. For most of my adult life I've published my work. However, that's only in scientific journals focused on molecular biology, virology and vaccine development related topics. Since a few years, I've shifted focus on myself and the stories that I carry that are related to my family or me. I'm exploring writing about them now and am very curious where this journey will take me. At the moment I have an "accountability buddy" and we meet in person once a month to discuss what we've written down and exchange ideas. It's interesting to see that my friend is always writing by hand, while I need a word file and track changes - 14 years in academic research have formatted me 😅
ARE YOUR STORIES ALREADY RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU?
A meal.A moment.A conversation that stayed with you longer than expected. I’ve found that food has a way of holding stories — not just in what’s served, but in what’s felt, remembered, and shared. That’s what I explore in my work — helping people turn everyday food experiences into writing that’s evocative, story-driven, and actually connects. Because sometimes the story isn’t dramatic…it’s just told well. 👉 If you’ve ever felt there’s a story behind what you eat, I’d love to hear it — what’s one food moment that’s stayed with you? https://www.skool.com/how-to-write-about-food-8335/about (Thanks for the opportunity of introducing myself @Dani Rosenblad James).
Hello everyone
Hi everyone. I’m a humble beginner in Sweden who recently found my voice in writing. I’m trying to find my way and learn as much as possible so I can write my story and get it published in an autofiction book. I hope my book can touch others and make them feel less alone. My primary readers are men in their 40s who are doing their best to live up to all the expectations and ideals imposed on them by society and family. The stereotypical man nowadays is supposed to be strong, hardworking, sensitive, tough, understanding, unselfish, supportive, a feminist, a teacher and coach, a full-time parent, a fun and successful worker, and a handyman—all while respecting others' mental needs, except his own. I have been writing a lot of poems and started working on a book a couple of months ago. I made a mind map and a framework, like Dani told me to. Then I made a book cover to get my creativity and motivation going. Now, I am writing the first chapter and just 'word-vomiting' the story so far. Thanks for letting me join; I love being a part of this community. I am writing in Swedish now, but I might try to write in English with the help of Google Docs and Copilot to get my typos and grammar under control.
Hello everyone
Never though I'd be a writer
Hi everyone, I'm Tami. I was an avid daydreamer as a kid, but I was highly discouraged from doing so. Instead, I was steered toward math and science. I went to college for computer science and held jobs in Tech companies until the stress almost killed me - not kidding. I left and started my own energy healing business. An entirely different world that I fell in love with. It led me to meditate deeper and in those quests, daydreaming reignited itself. I could spend hours on my journeys within. In 2015, I took a class to write a self-help book which I self-published. I enjoyed it but never thought of writing another one. Then one day 2 years ago, out of nowhere during meditation, I heard you are supposed to write books. It brough me back to reality with a zillion questions to find out I was to write fantasy fiction. This was overwhelming task. I had never taken a creative writing class. I was in the bottom reading group in grade school and I wasn't so good at grammar and spelling. I tried to take some classes but it felt off - like I was a square peg trying to fit into a round hole. But I kept hearing sit down and write, so I finally did. I sat put my hands on the keyboard and wrote what I heard and saw within my mind's eyes. I wrote like this for 11 months until I heard the word, stop. There are more books but I need to get the first 2 books out into the world first. I have been doing some writer sneak peaks with an author group in my area and have gotten great feedback that has allowed me to uplevel my writing. Now I understand beats. How to tighten dialogue and so much more. It's all coming along. Its funny how life works, but if it is supposed to be it will.
