🛠️ Stop Writing in Circles
There’s a moment in every book where it starts to feel like you’re moving but not actually getting anywhere. ✍️ You’re writing chapters. ✍️ Scenes are happening. ✍️ Words are filling the page. And yet… something feels off. Like each piece exists on its own island. 🏝️ If your chapters feel disconnected, this isn’t because you’re a bad writer. 📝 It’s because your through-line isn’t locked in. Story First means this: 💥 Every chapter… 💥 Every scene… 💥 Every moment… …is in conversation with the same core shift. Not just “what happens next”, but what is this story transforming? Let me show you what this looks like: Example 1 (surface vs. depth): On the surface: A girl travels across kingdoms to find others like her. Underneath: She learns that trust, not isolation, is what brings people together. Now every chapter has a job: ❓ Does this moment challenge her ability to trust? ❓ Or push her deeper into isolation? If not, then it doesn’t belong. Here’s another example. Example 2: On the surface: A man rebuilds his life after failure. Underneath: He learns that his worth isn’t tied to achievement. Now the story sharpens: ☑️ Every scene either reinforces his old belief… ☑️ Or cracks it open. When this piece clicks, something shifts: 🛑 You stop guessing what to write next. 🛑 You stop restarting. 🛑 You stop writing in circles. ⭕️ Because now, you’re following a path. 👉 So here’s where I want you to look: What is your story really about underneath the surface? This isn’t the plot, or the scenes. It’s the shift. Drop it below if you’re ready to map it out 👇

That's great insight into not only the writing process, it includes the expansion and healing/transformation that is possible through the art of writing and storytelling. Thanks for this dimension of depth, Dani!

@Dani Rosenblad James you know it’s funny you say that because I think this is actually what’s underneath all the conversation conversations about AI and why we cannot feel it - it’s lacking the essential meaning, which is relegated to the context of the conversation that it was put through. I don’t know if that’s clear but I think there’s a bridge here meaning in language. Without an actual heart behind the language, the words are just sound - and it’s interesting to me that we can feel the distinction instinctively.
🌟 Consistency Win
One writer this week adjusted from 5 hours to 2. And finally wrote. Consistency isn’t built on ambition. It’s built on honesty. So pick the amount of time that you can actually put towards your book, and have it as your minimum. When you set the dedicated time towards your book as your minimum for working on your book daily or a couple times a week, this helps you have a goal. It’s okay to do more time towards your book if you have the time. However, having at least a minimum is what will help the progress keep moving! Besides that, let’s think of how big do you want the book to be? 📕 When do you want it published? These also play a role to how much time you need to dedicate towards your book. 📖 Now, share your consistency wins! 🏆 Let’s learn from one another!

@Dani Rosenblad James I am just seeing this - I feel like I need to devote at least 2 hours (a pomodoro) to writing. I feel that writing in the open, sharing my journey on Substack, is the thing to do. What do you think?

Gosh. Great questions and prompts. My goals are to schedule time each day to do what I love so that my cup is filled. I realize that in carrying the challenges and responsibilities of entrepreneurship - I have put aside many of the things that fill my cup and give me joy. I realize it is unsustainable…. So for me this means synergizing light writing, music making, and drawing and painting. I think even starting with 2 min a day to keep a grain of momentum is valuable.
