Hi! I recently discussed a story idea with a few friends, and one of them mentioned, that her favourite character was the evil aunt. This is how I described her:
"Auntie Hypocrite (Leah’s late father’s sister). She frames herself as “concerned about propriety, family honour, your poor mother’s memory, blah blah blah,” but really she’s just jealous and wants Yaakov for herself."
It took me approximately 2 minutes to write this. Wasn't even putting that much effort into it.
In my online novel when the villain, the Evil Queen cam into play (there are a lot of chess metaphors in the book, the hero often refers to the heroine as 'His Queen', hence her chapter was called 'The Evil Queen steps on the board').
She was basically a cartoon villain. An evil socialite who is spreading lies and gossip. She was active in 2 chapters, had zero depth, and people LOVED her. Why?
Does that mean I am better at writing villains than heroes?
