Strength before Weightloss
Right — quick heads up from the gym floor: strength training just overtook weight loss as the top gym goal. A 2026 Life Time wellness survey found 42.3% of people now prioritise getting physically stronger over dropping kilos — partly because GLP‑1 drugs have shifted how folks approach shape and health (source: https://creators.yahoo.com/lifestyle/story/glp-1s-are-helping-strength-training-replace-weight-loss-as-the-top-goal-at-the-gym-002912020.html ).
Feels about right to me. As dads we don’t just want to look different — we want to move better, stay mobile for our kids, and have the resilience to get through busy days and nights. Strength isn’t vanity here; it’s being able to lift the buggy, wrestle with the little one without fear, and get up stairs without groaning. It’s also about recovery — sleep, nutrition and sensible programming so the body keeps up with family life.
If GLP‑1s are helping some people with body composition, that’s fine — but strength should sit alongside it. Simple progressive loading, mobility work, and a focus on recovery will give you longer-term wins.
