I witnessed Harvard and Princeton professor Cornell West speak at a meeting of minds on Zoom, to and with an audience representing different religious paths—Christian, Muslim, Hebrew Israelite, and traditional African religions. It was an elevating conversation and very healing.
I was most struck by his admission that he wasn’t rich and takes care of a lot of people, including his own parents and family, relatives, and others in the community. I will post a clip if I can. I felt validated—that I’m not wrong in recognizing our special leaders are also caregivers.
Here’s a man who ran for president of the U.S. in the 1980s, also reflecting the experience of most compassionate grassroots leaders. They are actively engaged in serving the physical, emotional and/or financial needs, indeed the very lives, of members of the African descent community.
