How are you guys planning your training ?
I have been juggling with SOBM for more than an year now. Honestly I have not been very regular with work and personal commitments. Having said that , I followed the path of : 1. Stability module 2. Rope flow basics module 3. kettle module The dead end I have hit is, I dont have the stability to the level @Timothy Shieff has :) . Can do basic rope flows. Can do basic kettle bell work outs. I wonder how should I plan my workout routine so that I do enough weight training for appropriate fitness, specially when I work 9-10 hours from desk. Anyone could share if they been successful in charting out a work out routine for progressive learning and at the same time training in the area of - stability + fluidity + strength. Thanks much
'The Death of 'Correct' Biomechanics' - Highly recommended viewing.
I watched this incredible video yesterday titled 'The Death of 'Correct' Biomechanics'. In it Kathy Sierra, a horse trainer and avid biomechanics student since the 90's, discusses a very recent biomechanics paper from Madhur Mangalam out of the Biomechanics and Research Development from the Center for Research in Human Movement Variability at the University of Nebraska. Titled - 'THE MYTH OF OPTIMALITY IN HUMAN MOVEMENT SCIENCE' The basics summary and my understanding of it is that there is NO optimum perfect functional pattern of movement and that it is diversity that brings opportunity for the body to build stability and peak performance comes from that. Not from adhering to some perfect line every rep. Though that is also not to say that Biomechanics does not matter! I would encourage you to watch the video as she goes through the history of biomechanics and all the big players leading up to this moment where one of the lead researches into biomechanics admits there is no optimum biomechanics. A few of the key quotes that stuck with me are... ‘We are not biomechanically correct, we are biomechanically abundant.’ ‘…stability emerges not from rigid control but from flexible exploration... 'Performance should not be measured by proximity to some hypothetical optimum but by the rich, contextual repertoire of functional possibilities available to the system.’ She also mentions that the Edge of Chaos is where functionality is built (paraphrase). Anyway I share all this to maybe express that what we are doing here (and have been doing) has been intuitively wonderfully aligned. The both sides utilised approach of precise movement patterns of rope flow and weck method work alongside the 'random' chaos of swiss balls, juggling and the feather barrier exploration. I have attached a link to the video and to the paper below and do hope you enjoy as this weeks homework viewing. Godspeed! -Tim
15 Mins Of Fun
Saw the March “homework” and had to try it out immediately! 10°C, no wind. Perfect conditions. 🌬️ And honestly - I had a blast. 😆 Started with a simple back-and-forth run for about five minutes, but before I knew it, Play Mode activated. Spent the rest of the 15 minutes running around like a wild kid (definitely got some looks from people on the path behind the camera). Also, I may have unlocked a groundbreaking running technique - SHIRTLESS, of course. Maximum sun absorption = maximum performance. Definitely made me run better… somehow. (Still waiting on the science to confirm.) Had to check myself a few times - Dreamliner junkie instincts kicked in - but kept it smooth and controlled. And of course, ended up with a solid layer of geese poop on my feet. Very natural, very authentic. 😂 The video just shows a few of the ways I played around with (slow) running. What a day. Hugs from Denmark! 🇩🇰 Edit: Video doesn’t have preview so added pictures instead.

MARCH HOMEWORK - 15min Barefoot Trot 🦶🌱
Hey all, Recently when I've wanted to move my body but had no motivation to hit the gym or go for a big walk or run I've just been doing this... 15min - barefoot on the grass - very light jog. No pace or goal or distance measured. And let me tell you after my body feels alive, especially my feet, ankles, knees etc all feel really active and healthily nourished without being burnt out. Afterwards I may do some calisthenics, pull ups, hangs, squats and hinges or I may just end it there and be happy for the day. I made a video about it on youtube: https://youtu.be/bkY8YgOz-VM And I made a video directly to you guys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXu5CSpIgQ8 So my task to you is to try this at least once in the next week or so. If you like it maybe do it 2-3 times a week. OR if you really wana go for it.. once a day for 30days in a row. I am on day 4 today. Please let me know how you find it if you have a go. Spring best! 🌱 Tim
Pandiculate Like You Mean it! - HOMEWORK
Lately I've become increasingly aware how much I hold myself back from natural arising actions/feelings - movements, stretches, yawns, satisfaction noises - my suspicion is that it is out of some hidden fear of being judged for being too expressive. It's like I hold back because I want to be 'polite' to others around me who may be offended by freedom somehow. Half the time there is no-one else even around me anyway so it's like a leash I am holding around my own neck. The 'mmm's' of good food and the 'aaaah's' of a good stretch! So I started to make conscious effort to start notice these little moments and I'm starting to LEANING Into Them and DAMN IT FEELS GOOD! The most satisfying one is the classic pandiculation/yawn stretch, I notice when my body is starting to do it and I focus fully on it and go all the way into it. Contract the muscles that want to contract, take the breath that want's to happen, make the noise that wants to be sounded! I am now also that weirdo at yoga who is making satisfaction noises with the stretches but I tell you THEY ARE PART OF THE POSTURE! HOMEWORK... Simply this, to notice these moments in your day - yawns, natural stretches, good food, orgasm (heck even sneezes is a big one I notice people hold back on) - and steer right into them! This isn't about faking it but about being like that Child who has no fear of full expression of everything that arises. If you try and want to share an experience below or in the telegram or just hit the comments with an emoji when you've felt it 🐈 Tim
