Yesterday's festivities went very well, though a bit more poignant that I expected. Logan started his day by going back to his elementary school (k-5 for him), along with many of his classmates from the same school and grade. This is a way of trying to motivate the 5th grade class on their continued journey. As Logan transferred to a different high school to enroll in an advanced program with HS/college classes mixed, it meant leaving many friends behind. While they all stayed in the same area, not seeing folks on a daily basis who you enjoyed seeing for K-8 grades is a major change. It became clear to him how many more friends he had in the old high-school path vs. his current high school and it stung a bit. Just as he was lamenting this to me after the graduation ceremony, his girlfriend of three years surprised him by showing up. This was very well timed to make him realize he did make some incredible new relationships at this school.

The other change, which I told him is 100% his decision, is that he is not going to the AA degree ceremony today. When he learned it would be about 3 hours long (and they usually run longer), he was burnt out. I get it and the attainment of the degree is what really matters, not some unknown dean handing you a blank piece of paper (most placed stopped trying to hand out the actual degrees decades ago given the number of errors).

That decision invited me to be a bit more casual today. This was mostly a self-crafted outfit, and many items have a small pattern. I know this is not the normal approach to multiple patterns, so I very much invite feedback. The linen vest already had some fun creases before I got into the office, despite it having cotton in it. Alas...

• Shirt — DS-032 (Charles Tyrwhitt): A classic CT Prince of Wales check in ocean blue with yellow and dark blue accents. The French cuffs with adjustable button add a touch of elegance, while the 5" point collar provides a perfect frame for today's tie. Cotton construction ensures all-day comfort through meetings and dinner alike.

• Undershirt — US-009 (Pro Club): A mid-blue crew neck in heavyweight cotton that disappears completely under the dress shirt while providing a comfortable base layer. The color coordinates invisibly with the shirt's blue tones.

Originally part of a suit, these versatile trousers now serve perfectly as separates with today's earth-tone ensemble.

• Vest — VWC-014 (Perry Ellis): A formal wedding-style vest in linen and cotton blend featuring a tan Glen check with cream and silver undertones. The five-button front and yes-pocket at chest add functionality, while the silver metal rear buckle ensures a perfect fit. A lighter-weight summer-appropriate option that bridges the gap between the blue shirt and brown trousers.

• Tie — NT-019 (Michael Kors): A silk necktie in light gold with brown undertones and a subtle diamond pattern. The 2-fold construction and self-tipped finish provide excellent drape and dimple retention. This tie harmonizes beautifully with both the vest's tan tones and the brown slacks. Tied in a Half Windsor for a balanced, professional knot.

• Pocket Square — PS-008 (King & Priory): Saddle brown tweed pocket square with light brown and cream herringbone pattern. The 9" size is perfect for a vest pocket, and the textile texture adds depth without competing with the silk tie. Folded in a Presidential (TV) fold for clean, conservative presentation.

• Belt — B-009 (Nordstrom): Dark brown leather belt with silver buckle and thick collar. The flat dark brown finish pairs seamlessly with the chocolate brown shoes and maintains the earth-tone foundation of the outfit.

• Footwear — DSh-007 (Allen Edmonds): Classic American Goodyear-welted cap-toe Oxfords in chocolate brown. These resoleable workhorses develop beautiful patina over time and represent the gold standard in business formal footwear. Perfectly aligned with the belt and slacks color family.

• Socks — DSo-084 (Mazarin): Super durable over-the-calf cotton lisle socks from Italy in dark brown with orange/brown shadow stripe. The ribbed alternating colors add subtle interest while maintaining business classic formality. Excellent stay-up performance for all-day wear.

Outfit Harmony Summary: Today's ensemble builds from an earth-tone foundation (brown slacks, belt, shoes, socks) anchored by the ocean blue Prince of Wales check shirt. The tan Glen check vest bridges these color families while the gold/brown tie pulls everything together. Metal consistency (silver throughout) and leather consistency (brown family) create cohesion across all accessories.
