I'd rather hone a skill than lean on a crutch...
I had the opportunity to pull out this old quote this morning, when a coworker asked me how much I use AI to write emails.
It comes from a scene where an executive is typing his own correspondence, and a coworker asks why he doesn't just have one of the secretaries do it.
While AI - though we're still using that term incorrectly - can be a very beneficial tool, when used properly, it can also end up being a crutch.
I use AI for work - both as a consumer and a provider - every single day. I'm very aware of both its capabilities and limitations, as a software developer who's been working off and on with some version of machine learning for decades.
However, I still maintain that communication is the most important skill a human can possess.
Just as how we dress indicates the level of respect we have for ourselves and those around us, so does our communication.
As a result, I choose not to use AI as a communication crutch. I try to take every opportunity to hone that skill, as opposed to letting someone or something else do it for me...
