Today’s practice is a reality check — literally.
It comes from the world of lucid dreaming, but its impact goes far beyond that. You're invited to pause, a few times throughout the day (usually prompted when something is slightly "unusual" or unexpected about the moment you are in), and ask yourself:
“Am I awake?”
That’s it. But if you really ask, and look around, something starts to shift.
Why this practice:
Most of us move through the day on autopilot. We don’t question our surroundings, our thoughts, or our sense of time. But this is exactly how we move through dreams too, assuming it’s real, until it’s not.
By asking “Am I awake?” in waking life, you’re training your brain to do the same in dreams. And the brain doesn’t compartmentalise as much as we think, the habit of questioning reality carries over into sleep. This is how lucidity starts.
But this practice also sharpens daytime awareness. It interrupts mental loops and brings you back to your body.
Reality checks are especially powerful in moments that feel off, when something small glitches:
You forget why you walked into a room, hear someone say something unexpected, see a repeated number, or feel a sense of déjà vu.
That’s your cue. Pause. Ask: “Am I awake?”
Whether you become lucid in your dreams or not, this practice helps you wake up to your life, which, in the end, might be the deeper invitation.
