How my own insomnia led me to open Night School 🧟‍♀️👩‍🔬🙍‍♀️
There are 235 of you here now, and I couldn't be more thrilled to serve you and help you sleep well. But did you know that I myself am a recovering insomniac? 🧐 STORY TIME For those of you who are new here, hello. My name is Maša Nobilo. 🙋‍♀️ I was born into a family of insomniacs. Anxiety has always run high in my family, and it very often showed up at night. Without realising it, I picked up the same ways of handling stress from the people around me, and with them the same kind of sleep. FROM EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT TO SLEEP COACHING In my late twenties, I left Croatia 🇭🇷 and started working as a translator and interpreter at the European Parliament. That's when the insomnia hit properly. It would go on for months at a time. A stressful job, a new home and a rocky relationship all played a part. Underneath all of it, I didn't know how to look after myself. I had no way of offloading stress, and I kept making choices that left no room for rest. For years I lived with sleepless nights and low moods, and my health started to suffer. I carried a sense of hopelessness I couldn't shake. Somewhere in those years, I found movement, psychology, somatic practice, and coaching, and became obsessed with how changes in our body and somatic state can change our mental health and how our mind responds to stress and disruption. I spent almost every holiday studying and getting certified. Over four and a half years, I trained in a range of somatic methods, including the ones I use at Restful Sleep (my company) today. THE SNOWBALL EFFECT ON MY SLEEP Then I started using them on myself. My sleep improved, and it stayed not just good, but reliably consistent. Other things changed too. My choices began to line up with what I valued, and I found myself building a life where rest and calm were possible. Insomnia had been one of the biggest problems in my life, and it was no longer part of it. ➡️➡️ What made the difference was working with my body alongside my mind. ⬅️⬅️ I can't stress that enough. This is the core piece of every bit of transformation I have supported people with, and it's the foundation of everything you will do here at Night School.

I loved getting to know the person behind the content a bit more. Thank you for sharing some of your journey with us!
I started my 7 Night Sleep Reset
This was my first day. I learned so much on the first day already! Firstly the whole thing about the waking up time versus the go to sleep time was a total mind shift. Secondly, waking up at the same time everyday - even weekends. It took my a while to decide on a fix time - not too early and not too late. And then the importance of light within the first 30 minutes after waking up. Never knew that to be a factor. Lastly, I am becoming aware of my energy paths throughout the day. Normally I get my first dip early afternoon. Sometimes late morning close to midday - especially when I had a bad night. To sum it up, Day one was very insightful and I am looking forward to what is to come!
I gotta confess…🫣
I suck at resting. Well, at least I used to. And I still often do. I’m on vacation now for the next 10 days, hence my radio silence here. I’m in gorgeous places, with incredible people I love. And yet I feel daily the guilty pull to do a run through all my work channels, because the storyline is: 🔘 if I stop, everyone will forget about me 🔘 if I don’t respond right away, I will lose opportunities 🔘 if I don’t feed the algorithm, it will knock me back down and erase the progress I made in bringing the almost 200 of you here It’s a daily (almost) spiritual practice to let the capitalistic pressure run through me without doing anything about it. To return to resting and pleasure and non-doing without guilty. But, somehow, I am succeeding. The work I have done on my sleep, ability to rest and claim my pleasure are bearing fruit. Work I am eager AF to share with you when I return. ☺️ In the meantime, here’s a video of my slice of paradise. Would love to hear from you: How do you relate to real rest when you’re on vacation?

Looks awesome! I get what you mean about showing up, algorithm etc. I’m quite good at shutting down during vacations - especially my phone. But that was before Skool came into my life. Will be interesting to see what will happen during my next vacation coming up in October…😉
Your Sleep Graveyard🧟‍♂️: What's Buried In It?
Everyone who lands here already has a graveyard of things they tried. Tell me what's buried in yours. Maybe it's melatonin that worked for two weeks and then quietly stopped. The wearable that causes you anxiety you with a number before you've even opened your eyes. The doctor who handed you a prescription and moved on to the next patient. Maybe therapy. Maybe nothing at all, just gritting your teeth through years of bad nights. Trying something and having it not stick just means the advice wasn't built for what's actually going on with you. Vote in the poll. This is really useful for me to know what to build next for you. Then tell me in the comments what's not on the list. What have you already tried to sleep better?

Definitely hygiene, but also supplements. They tend to make me feel groggy the next morning and I'm cautious of habit-forming. I'm very open to explore anything new.

It is over the counter product called Somnil here in South Africa. A short-term treatment for occasional insomnia Each Somnil tablet contains doxylamine succinate, an antihistamine that causes drowsiness. I usually took halve a tablet and only when I wake up in the early morning hours and struggle to fall asleep again. I think it is to close to the morning then.🙃
New Recording: Where Your Sleep Tension Actually Lives
🎧 New 30-min recording is up, and I want to tell you why I found it crucial to record. Most of us carry tension in the same spots without noticing: - 😬 A tight jaw, tongue pressed up - 🫁 A breath that only reaches the top of the chest - 🙅 Arms crossed for no real reason - 👀 Eyes locked on one narrow point instead of the whole room These are signs of a body bracing, staying ready, trying to control something. And you can't think your way out of a clenched jaw. Telling yourself to relax rarely works, because the tension isn't a decision, it's a habit your nervous system learned. What shifts it is new movement, in a moment where nothing is at stake. That's what Awareness Through Movement is. It's an audio-based class format of the Feldenkrais Method, developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, a physicist and judoka who got curious about how people relearn movement after his own injury didn't respond to conventional treatment. It's not stretching or exercise. It's slow, small, exploratory movement that gives your nervous system a chance to notice what it's doing and find another option. I trained as a Feldenkrais practitioner because this was the piece CBT-I and behavioral sleep work alone couldn't reach. You can fix someone's schedule and their thoughts about sleep, and their body can still be bracing at 11pm like it's expecting a threat. This is where I go to work with that layer directly. 🧘 The recording walks through jaw and tongue, breath, hands, head and neck, and eyes. No Feldenkrais experience needed, just a floor or a chair and 20 minutes where nobody needs anything from you. Find the recording here. Tell me in the comments what you notice before and after.

I have just joined and already experienced the value- adding of this community. I did this 20 minute Awareness Through Movement exercise and enjoyed every second of it. The softening of the eyes behind closed eyelids was a very new experience and so relaxing. As we progress with the exercise I could feel how I became overall much heavier in my body on the carpet. I even, when struggling to sleep last night, followed some of the movements I could recall. Thanks Masa. I'm so excited to learn more.
