Yesterday we travelled two hours from Zaragoza with my son's team to play in a tournament, and we had a fantastic day. Not only the kids enjoyed it, but all the families as well. We topped our group, winning all three matches without conceding a single goal. In the Round of 16 we did exactly the same: another win and another clean sheet. Unfortunately, our run ended in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 defeat against one of the other teams from our own club. It was a very special match because it was a game between friends, both on the pitch and among the families off it. We all had a great time, although only one team could go through. Sadly, that team was then knocked out in the semi-finals on penalties, while our third club team reached the final but also lost on penalties. Lizer had a very good tournament overall. He seems to thrive in this kind of competition. He was very secure at the back, made a few important saves when needed, and was alert to loose balls, coming off his line quickly and using his feet well outside the area to prevent dangerous situations before they developed. If awards for Goalkeeper of the Tournament were more common at these events in our region like yours, he would certainly have been a strong candidate. It wouldn't have been the first time either. At our club's Three Kings Tournament earlier this season, where we were also knocked out in the quarter-finals, he conceded only a couple of goals throughout the entire competition and was eventually named Goalkeeper of the Tournament. Without a doubt, it was a day to remember. After the disappointment of Saturday's league match, when we conceded a late equaliser that, combined with other unfavourable results, left us out of the final stage, a day like this was exactly what we needed to close the season on a positive note and enjoy some great moments together. On the other hand, as we expected, my own team lost their final cup group match. I couldn't attend because of the tournament with my son, and that defeat also meant we missed out on the cup knockout stage.
