Goalkicks...
Goalkicks have been out main focus at training this week for our two keepers, one thing I've noticed is at a young age not many keepers opt for the long kick and play out from the back, we are currently under 10's and with some tweaks in technique one of our keepers can confidently clear the heads of players with a 30 yard goalkick 9/10 times. It seems to me like the standard goalkick is being coached out of the game, has anyone else noticed this

Ok I’m with you on this My little boy is u7’s So ruling is Dead ball everyone must reset and ball is to be put on the floor Not dead ball can be goal kicked he has a cracking goal kick and often gets an assist out strikers know Kian saves u run into the box ready for it So 6year old finally understands I save i kick it goes out I put down great 2 week ago game ref insisted he put it down as his a kick was too long our coaches didn’t do anything but after the match I had a word and said refs can not make a rule up and isn’t fair on Kian it’s confusing him Last week the opposition coach pulled ref said at this age can not header and his kicks are too high and too long he must put it down this time our coaches didn’t argue and won that the rules of the league state he can! I get the no header but sorry your striker can blast it towards my kids head in goal at this age … teach your team t let it bounce Gk need t get their skills for the role not inhibit them doing so

@Nathan Hallwood it just frustrates me because then he gets confused and feels like he has been told off for doing what we have told him to do Luckily the coaches the second week pulled the ref at end of first quarter about it and then had to explain to Kian the ref was wrong he was right and to carry on as where I know refs r only volunteers but I do feel they should learn the age groups rules if they are going to ref

Everyones story to becoming a GK
What was your story on how you became a goalkeeper. Here's myn: I used to play Lb from when I was 5-9 but most match days the GK never showed up so I went in. Every since 9-current(13) I have had goalkeeper training and completely fell in love with the role

Kians older cousin is a gk Started over half way through u6 season and when they split the teams he asked if he could go in goal like his cousin … hasn’t come out since and doesn’t want to

So Tommy had a Christmas tournament that he attended with his team a few weeks prior to this he had seemed out of sorts had been off with illness etc but was doing ok, the tournament happened and Tommy ended up breaking down and said he was not sure if he wanted to be goalkeeper anymore his love for it had gone 😢 from a parents point of view his confidence had completely gone with it so we took a break so he could decide what to do and he is back 🙂 the last couple of weeks have been like having the old Tommy back in goal and it’s been great to watch.
