Max Stary wins the Featherweight Title AND competes in a super fight in the same week!
How is that possible? An MMA fight and a grappling super fight, in the same week? Well, in a nutshell, Max is ready to go on very short notice. Part of being a successful amateur combat sports athlete is being an active one. And being active means you've got to be in shape, and ready to go, multiple times per year. Max doesn't cut a lot of weight, which is also a huge factor to contributing towards his high activity. I have been developing Max for the last 16 months with his S&C. We have focused a ton on movement quality, technique, and getting him as strong as possible for his size, all whilst maintaining an average skills training output of 12-15 hours per week (more than a lot of pro combat athletes!) His progress has been incredible. Max is a super hard worker, and is very coachable. Plus, he's clear on his goals and where he wants to go in this game - something which many athletes are not clear about. If your S&C is on point and your workloads are being tracked and managed, there's no reason why you can't compete twice in a week. At Combathlete, we do all of the tracking and management for you, so you can show up and perform at your best, without having to worry about all of the behind the scenes stuff. 🚨 I am opening up my books for THIS WEEK ONLY and I have 3 spots. 🚨 👉🏻 If you would like to learn more about the Combathlete online coaching program and how we can help you increase your gas tank and develop into a complete human weapon in just 2-4 hours per week... ✅ Send me a message here on Skool, or via DM on Instagram with the word 'RESILIENCE' and I will send you some more info.

How to boost your immune system and avoid getting sick
Getting sick, sucks. And at this time of year, in the northern hemisphere especially, as the seasons change, sickness is at its prime, and it wants to take you out. One of the simplest ways to boost your immunity is by eating the right foods and supplementing properly. Vitamin C, vitamin D, zinc, and garlic should be at the forefront of your ingestion at this time of year. Here's a cheat sheet of foods and their vitamin C content to help you stock the fridge with the right goods; Kiwifruit, Zespri SunGold 1 fruit (81 g) = 130mg Grapefruit juice, white, canned or bottled ¾ cup (6 ounces) = 76mg Strawberries 1 cup, whole = 85mg Orange, navel 1 fruit (140 g) = 83mg Orange juice, prepared from frozen ¾ cup (6 ounces) = 68mg Sweet red pepper, raw ½ cup = 59mg Broccoli, cooked ½ cup = 51mg Brussels sprouts, cooked ½ cup = 48mg Kiwifruit, green 1 fruit (81 g) = 48mg Grapefruit, pink/red, raw ½ medium = 38mg Potato, white, flesh and skin, baked 1 medium, baked = 22mg Tomato, red, raw 1 medium = 17mg Banana, raw 1 medium = 10mg Apple, raw 1 medium = 8mg Spinach, raw 1 cup = 8mg Because our immune systems take more of a battering when we're training hard and frequently, try dosing between 500-1000mg, of vitamin C on harder training days, and take it in the form of ascorbic acid. Hopefully that helps you boost your immunity, and don't delay, start topping up today!

Liz Carmouche KOs Bishop and wins the PFL Women's Flyweight World Championship and $500k
Many said it couldn't be done. "She's too old. She's past it. Bishop is going to tap her out." Well, Bishop tried with her best submission game, but she's just not Liz Carmouche. Liz has worked unbelievably hard over the last year since joining us at Combathlete. After not getting the results she wanted in the PFL 2024 season, she looked to join us to switch things up, and take her Sports Nutrition, and Strength & Conditioning more seriously. What we do at Combathlete is the best in the world. And how we helped Liz dial in on her performance just goes to show that the critics were wrong. Our gas tank weaponization with Liz put her in the top 1% of female combat sports athletes. No opponent she faced was going to out pace her. Our strength and power programming that we ran Liz through over the last year, both off-season, and in-season is so legit, Bishop couldn't even separate Liz's limbs away from her torso, not to mention the slams, and knockout power Liz delivered throughout the fight, all the way in to the victorious third round. Liz is an incredible example of what Combathlete stands for. And if you're an MMA fighter and you're looking to run a program that features many of the methods we use at the highest level, you're in luck. Head to the Combathlete instagram, click the link in the bio, and you can purchase yourself a copy of The Resilient Combathlete Strength System for MMA fighters. We have a program for male athletes, and one for female athletes, too. And even better, the 12 week program will cost you less than a month's membership at your local skills gym. Congratulations Liz! Your 2025 PFL run is one for the ages.

Bobby Winther takes GOLD at the San Diego IBJJF Black Belt Open Weight Division
I've been working with Bobby for 23 months. One thing we have made sure to do over that time, is maintain his gas tank to a high level. Make no mistake, Bobby is probably the hardest worker in the room. He doesn't quit and is a savage on the mats. But when you have confidence in your gas tank because of all the work you've put in, you can *weaponize* it. And boy, did Bobby weaponize his gas tank this past weekend. His opponent was huge, too. Bobby entered around 188lb. His opponent? Closer to 220-230lb. But Bobby took him through his paces for a solid 10 minutes and 54 seconds, shooting more takedowns than I've ever seen in my life. If you knew the backstories leading up to this tournament, you'd be even more impressed by his victories. Now I've got a couple of online coaching spaces opening up, so if weaponizing your gas tank is finally a priority for you, drop me a DM and let's have a conversation. Congratulations, Bobby. You really deserved this one!

Most combat athletes are WEAK overhead...Here's how to get STRONG with 3 lift progressions
One thing I have noticed over the last few years coaching combat athletes is that very often, 9/10 of them are very WEAK overhead, both with pushing (overhead press variations) and pulling (chin up variations). Pressing overhead is difficult because the muscles involved are smaller when pressing on a vertical axis, compared to pressing on a horizontal axis. However, getting strong at pressing overhead is a wise investment. And what's really cool about vertical pushing is that you can peak it perfectly for fight nights / comps / tournaments (much more so than horizontal pressing). Here's how; During your BASE strength phase (around 10 weeks out), choose a press variation that puts you in a disadvantageous position, for example; Seated Z Press, Half Kneeling Single Arm Landmine Press, Seated OHP (with no backrest) etc. Because it's the BASE phase, you'll want to work in the 5 to 8 rep range, @ 75-85% of your 1RM. 3-4 sets. When you transition into your Max Strength phase (around 7 weeks out), you're going to IMPROVE your pressing position by choosing a press variation that allows you to press MORE weight. For example; OHP, Seated OHP (with backrest), Standing Single Arm Landmine Press, etc. Because it's the Max Strength phase, you'll now want to focus on the 3-5 rep range, @ 80-90% of your 1RM. 3 sets. Now to peak the vertical push series, we need a FULL BODY pressing option, that allows us to ACCELERATE the bar as fast as possible, with moderate to heavy loads. Enter the Power phase (around 4 weeks out). My favourite candidate here is the Push Press. Landmine Push Presses are great, too, especially if your shoulders don't love vertical pressing. Because it's the Power phase, you'll now want to hit 5-6 reps of the Push Press, using around 110-115% of what you could STRICT press for the same number of reps. For example, if you strict press 135lb for 5 reps, then 135 x 115% = 155lbs, so you would do 5 reps of Push Press with 155lb (as a rough guide).
