Why Does This Still Happen?

She didn’t mean to snap.

It came out sharper than she intended, a small edge in her voice during a conversation that didn’t require it. Later, while rinsing a mug at the sink, she replayed it and felt that familiar drop in her stomach.

Why does that still happen?

The Scripture is clear. The Spirit lives within. The fruit is already given. Peace isn’t something to earn. Joy isn’t something to manufacture. Strength isn’t something to prove.

And yet when pressure rises, something tightens before peace has a chance to speak.

The tightening doesn’t look dramatic. It looks responsible. It looks like staying on top of things. It looks like carrying what needs to be carried.

But afterward there’s that quiet exhaustion. Not from work, but from bracing.

Mary energy feels different. It doesn’t retreat from responsibility. It simply doesn’t harden while carrying it. It trusts what is already settled. It moves without the edge.
