Struggling with Overeating?
This is a feeling many of us know ALL too well. If you’ve ever struggled with excess weight, chances are good that you know what it’s like to overeat.
It doesn’t feel good. You know you don’t need anymore food. And yet, you keep eating, as if trying to fill an endless bottomless pit.
You know that food can’t really fill that hole. Ever. Even if you ate constantly for 500 days in a row, making yourself sick again and again, food can NEVER fill the bottomless emotional hole.
And yet, you still try. Maybe this time it can actually work?!
What do I do when I find myself overeating? Yes, it still happens for me, though less than it used to.
  • I go back to the basics. I take it as a sign that my nervous system is feeling unsafe, dysregulated. Good Sleep, deep breaths, regulating activities like rocking back and forth, or giving myself a neck massage.
  • I do things that help me to feel regulated…slowing down my activities as much as possible, taking time for deep relaxation with things like Hypno Health, long meditations, going for walks in nature, praying and turning it over to God.
  • Supporting blood sugar balance with supplements like Berberine, Gymnema, Bitter Melon, Chromium, Oregano oil. Since erratic blood sugar drives more cravings and creates patterns of overeating.
  • I would take care of myself as if I had a little baby inside me, crying for my attention. Cuz I sort of do. It was when I was a baby that I first learned that there’s something soothing about overeating, and so I would turn to that habit to soothe myself, according to my mom.
  • Asking myself, “How do I feel? What do I need? “ throughout the day and really pausing to wait for the answers, is one powerful and easy way to connect with that inner baby, the inner self that feels overwhelmed, for whatever reason.
  • How old were you, when you first learned that overeating can soothe you in some way?
What do you do when you find yourself in patterns of overeating?
