SOTD/Review: Santal Austral by Matiere Premiere
The opening of this fragrance is a soft and creamy Iris that is not harsh in any way. At 15 minutes in, I am starting to pick up the dry woodiness from the Sandalwood which is very nice. At 30 minutes the fragrance is dissipating quite quickly from my skin. As it transitions from the Iris to the Sandalwood, it is losing most of it's projection. The dry down of this fragrance is a very light creamy and woody scent with some underlying sweetness fom the Tonka Bean. On my skin performance is fair (two sprays from sample on skin) with the fragrance only lasting about 3 to 4 hours. There are some slight hints of the fragrance past 4 hours, but it is extremely light. Projection is also fair with the fragrance creating a scent bubble of about 18: but obnly for about 30 minutes. I was not able to detect any sillage on this fragrance. To me the fragrance is neither complex enough nor does it perform enough to justify a full bottle. On a second test I actually sprayed much heavier (12 sprays on pulse points) and the performance improved to about 6 hours.
