SOTD: Guerlain Angelique Noir
Today I’m wearing Angelique Noire from Guerlain’s L’Art & La Matiere collection. This is a vanilla with some character the green, slightly bitter angelica gives it a direction that separates it from the sweeter vanillas out there.
The contrast is what makes this fragrance interesting. You have that fresh, herbal edge meeting a smooth, rounded vanilla, with pink pepper adding a little lift and cedar giving it a woody foundation. There’s sweetness, but the greenery keeps the composition balanced.
As it develops, the vanilla becomes more prominent, while the angelica keeps that botanical character running through it. The result is warm, elegant and distinctive without being difficult to wear. Completely comfortable wearing this as a man.
• Longevity: Roughly 6-9 hours on skin, sometimes longer, depending on application and conditions.
• Projection: Usually most noticeable during the first 1-2 hours, then gradually settles into a softer scent bubble.
• Sillage: A moderate trail early on, becoming more personal as the wear progresses. Think noticeable nearby rather than filling every room.
For me, the appeal is the balance. Guerlain takes the comforting familiarity of vanilla and gives it a green, bitter twist that makes it memorable. A fragrance doesn’t have to shout to have character, and Angelique Noire is a good example.
