Review & SOTD: Bold Blend by Penhaligon's
In case you missed my previous post, this is a brand new (not released yet) fragrance from Penhaligon's. Bold Blend is a dynamic rush of subtle peppermint and bold black pepper which wakes the senses. A heart of clary sage and violet leaf imparts strength and clarity. Finally, a trio of woods: palo santo, cypress and cypriol offer depth and distinction.
The initial opening is a blast of dark and dry notes with a tinge of Peppermint. To my nose I am picking up a Leather and woody scent. I am not getting much of the Peppermint or spiciness. At 15 minutes no significant movement in the scent profile as the fragrance is simply settling down. At 30 minutes the fragrance is starting to transition into the Heart notes and I am getting some softness of the Clary Sage. At 60 minutes the Palo Santo in this fragrance is simply AMAZING (I am quite biased as this is one of my favorite woody notes)! Soft woodiness blended with the Saffron and the softness of the Clary Sage are just pure elegance. The dry down of this fragrance is a soft and dry woody scent profile that sits close to the skin and would be amazing as a base for a layering.
Performance: The projection is this fragrance is not very loud which is OK with me. I was able to get a scent bubble of about 18" for about 90 minutes. The sillage was also OK with a scent trail of about 2 feet for about 90 minutes as well. Longevity on my skin is good with the fragrance lasting between 5 to 7 hours and becoming a skin scent at about the 3rd hour. This is not a beast mode fragrance. It's simply manly and elegant.
