Bortnikoff is an artisan niche house by Dmitry Bortnikoff, known for rich natural materials, real oud, ambergris, musk-style bases, florals, resins, and extrait-level compositions. This is not a typical designer-style house. Bortnikoff leans more old-world, dense, artistic, and natural-smelling, but Tiger Blue is one of the more wearable and modern entries from the brand.
Tiger Blue is a collaboration between Dmitry Bortnikoff and Christian Carbonnel / Chris Maurice. It is an Extrait de Parfum with grapefruit, lemon, ginger, violet, magnolia, amber, labdanum, ambergris, musk, vanilla, and benzoin.
Tiger Blue opens bright, clean, and sharp with grapefruit, lemon, and ginger. It has that fresh citrus sparkle, but it does not smell basic or shower-gel cheap. The ginger gives it some bite, the florals smooth it out, and the ambergris/musk/vanilla/benzoin base gives it a salty, slightly creamy, expensive drydown.
To me, this is Bortnikoff making something easier to wear without losing the niche quality. It is fresh, citrusy, slightly floral, a little spicy, and has a smooth resinous base underneath. This is not a beastly dirty oud fragrance. This is the one I would recommend first to someone who wants to try Bortnikoff but does not want to jump straight into the heavy animalic oud side of the house.
Performance: good for a fresh extrait. Expect around 7–9 hours, with solid projection the first 2–3 hours, then it settles into a clean but noticeable scent bubble.
My take: Tiger Blue smells like a high-end fresh niche fragrance with more depth than the usual citrus freshie. It is clean enough for daily wear, but the ambergris, musk, and balsamic base make it feel more expensive and more grown than a basic blue fragrance.
Top 5 Bortnikoff Fragrances
1. Musk KhabibA rich musky amber fragrance with bergamot, cardamom, nutmeg, ylang-ylang, cedar, tolu balsam, ambergris, musk, oakmoss, vetiver, tonka, and vanilla. This is one of the house legends. Smooth, sensual, musky, slightly spicy, and very refined.
2. Oud MaximusA big floral oud with citrus, jasmine, rose, magnolia, frangipani, clove, oud, birch tar, musk, civet, vanilla, and balsams. This is for someone who wants the full Bortnikoff experience: bold, natural-smelling, oud-heavy, floral, animalic, and powerful.
3. Sayat NovaApricot, narcissus, rum, vanilla, multiple ouds, and oakmoss. This is fruity, boozy, floral, woody, and artistic. It has a beautiful apricot-rum sweetness over a serious oud base.
4. Tabac DoréPink pepper, vanilla, ambrette, cinnamon, tobacco, benzoin, fig, cedar, labdanum, sandalwood, balsams, and wild oud. This is one of the best choices if you like tobacco fragrances with sweetness, spice, resin, and oud depth.
5. Amber CologneBergamot, lemon, grapefruit, orange, cardamom, frangipani, jasmine, cedar, sandalwood, ambergris, oud, and vanilla. This is fresher and easier to wear, but still has that Bortnikoff natural depth. Great entry point if Tiger Blue sounds good to you.
