Apple ๐ŸŽ Cider Vinegar
๐ŸŽ Who else drinks apple cider vinegar in the morning? ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™€๏ธ
Before I go to bed, I add a little apple cider vinegar (ACV) to a glass of water and drink as soon as I wake up. I also will drink in water about half an hour before a heavy meal. Itโ€™s a simple habit that has been around for centuries, and while itโ€™s not a miracle cure, research suggests it may offer several health benefits.
Some of the reasons I enjoy it:
โœ… Supports healthy digestion
โœ… Contains natural acids that may help nourish beneficial gut bacteria and support a healthy microbiome (especially when paired with a fiber-rich diet)
โœ… May help reduce the blood sugar spike after meals by slowing stomach emptying and improving insulin sensitivity
โœ… Can help you feel fuller longer, which may reduce cravings
โœ… Supports healthy metabolism as part of an overall healthy lifestyle
โœ… Provides acetic acid, a beneficial plant compound found in fermented foods
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ What about GLP-1?
One of the exciting areas of research is how foods like apple cider vinegar may support our bodyโ€™s natural GLP-1 production.
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone your intestines release after you eat. It helps:
โœจ Tell your pancreas to release insulin when needed
โœจ Slow stomach emptying so you stay full longer
โœจ Reduce appetite and cravings
โœจ Help regulate healthy blood sugar levels
Scientists believe the acetic acid in apple cider vinegar may stimulate the release of GLP-1 and other satiety hormones. It doesnโ€™t work anywhere near the level of prescription GLP-1 medications, but it may gently support your bodyโ€™s own natural processes, especially when combined with protein, fiber, regular movement, and quality sleep.
๐Ÿฅ— The biggest key to a healthy microbiome is feeding it what it loves:
โ€ข Colorful vegetables
โ€ข Fruits
โ€ข Beans and legumes
โ€ข Fermented foods
โ€ข Plenty of fiber
โš ๏ธ A few tips:
โ€ข Always dilute it to protect your teeth
โ€ข If you have ulcers, severe reflux, kidney disease, or take medications like insulin or diuretics, talk with your healthcare provider first.
Itโ€™s a small daily habit that fits well into my wellness routine, along with focusing on whole foods and gut health.
Do you drink apple cider vinegar? If so, how do you take yours? ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ‘‡
