All this "you're doing great" is actually offputting
One the one hand, it's nice to have encouragement sent my way. On the other, it sort of feels like being on a sports team and getting a prize just for showing up. Maybe this is another aspect of my ADHD, but how do we distinguish between folks who only just show up and folks who engage with the work? Maybe it's the way I've been trained. I remember back in school I had teachers who did not hand out A's easily or frequently, so that if you got an A you knew you really deserved it. Maybe I just don't understand this aspect of the program, so I would very much appreciate anyone who can explain this aspect. Maybe instead of saying "you're doing great" anyone so moved could say, "nice post", or "nice that you completed all of the assignments". In other words, a recognition of something specific I said or did, rather than a mushy "you're doing great". Because that feels like getting a prize for just showing up. Thanks.
