Time away from the gym.
What are your thoughts on taking time away from the gym? Im not talking about a few days, i mean taking a break for training. Im coming back from taking 2 weeks off. My lower back and knees feel good and im hungry to get back into it. I have a powerlifting buddy, he takes 3 to 4 months off after big comps. He says it allows his cartilage and ligaments to heal and to refuel his hunger for training again. Obviously 3 to 4 months is outrageously long. Would like to hear what you guys think about this.

@Pieter Troskie to me, it depends on the type of training you’re doing. I haven’t trained a ton of hypertrophy over the last 3-4 years, so it’s not like I had a bunch of MASS to lose anyways. If that’s what you’ve been training for predominantly then you may see a loss in MASS. It was good for me mentally though. So it wasn’t bad that I took the time off. The thing I learned most is that a program is a guide. But you have to listen to your body and mind along the way.

And definitely when I got back to work the strength gains came quick. I started with Back To Barbell. And that was a good start to get me into Warfighter.
Returning to training.
What’s up fellas. I have been struggling with program hopping for the better half of 3 years now. I previously power lifted with some pretty solid numbers and technique, but life got wild and I became consistently inconsistent. I’m now committed to Warfighter and have been for the last 2 months. I started with Back to Barbell and primed myself up. I understand I have to treat myself like a novice again and work back up to handle a 6 day program. I have been focusing on the 3 total body days mostly while trying to get at least one of the conditioning days in during the week. To me that seems the most logical way to attack getting back after it. Does anyone have any advice to attacking this program from a novice standpoint?

@Brian T how about incorporating the conditioning? Should I feather one conditioning day in a week until I can recover properly? Then add the 2nd? So on and so forth? Running after squatting has been difficult, and then rucking before deadlifts has made me prioritize the deadlift. I hope that makes sense. I actually want to build muscle and get faster but I am realizing that combining the 2 is a lot easier said than done.
Grounding Sheets Legitimacy?
Gentlemen, I keep seeing an AD for grounding sheets. Anyone familiar with these things? And do they work?

@McLaughlin Thomas … no kidding? I may give these things a try then.
Ruck Running/ Rucking faster
Question regarding rucking form. Is the best/ safest way to ruck faster a speed walking style? I've been experimenting with Keeping one foot on the ground always and moving as fast as possible. Is this a strategy you've seen for rucking faster? (Apposed to ruck running, both feet come off the ground)

Personally, I cant "walk" a 15 minute mile loaded with any more than 25 pounds without high impact and ridiculously long strides. I'm no expert but from my understanding that is the least safe way to ruck (and slowest) aside from running with long strides under load. I do a "sniper shuffle" where I sorta jog with a slight bend in the knee. Its more like bouncing and compressing my legs at a pace that keeps me between 14 and 16 minutes a mile. For me, the compression of my legs makes recovery and pacing much easier. Hope this helps man. Figuring out the best rucking technique can drive you crazy if you let it.
How to build a run base?
Hi guys I've got a question here. I'm running the warfighter program but the run days I'm having an issue due to my running hiatus of 2 years. Is there any recommendations to build my run base up in those days such as running zone 2 work or adding some speed? I've been reading around and the 10% rule is something to swear by and you guys generally recommend a deload every 4th week? Also on the days where the conditioning is can I replace it with this plan to build a run base. I'm preparing for the Royal marine commando in the UK towards the end of this year. Early on the the training phases there's alot of sprinting such as 100-800m circuits and long runs that max out at 8 miles. Not sure any recommendations where to start as I've been struggling to get past 5 miles a week.

This has been my greatest struggle since joining the program. I have always been a great runner. For years I could run 20 miles a week with hardly any issues recovering. Then I took about 3 years off from running and now 10 miles a week really messes me up. I need to get back to the drawing board. Cut back. And do something more sustainable with gradual increases.
