New Release from Tom Ford
Coming in April ... Tom Ford Taormina Orange. From iFragrance: A joyfully radiant creation that exudes energy and positivity. Transporting the wearer to a hilltop cliff in Sicily, the scent evokes blood-red orange groves, crisp sea breezes, and exotic coastal views. Top notes: Green Mandarin, Cardamom, and Lime Middle notes: Orange Blossoms Absolute, Sicilian Blood Oranges, and Bitter Orange Base notes: Moss, Patchouli, and Musk Like an endless walk-through verdant orangeries bathed in shades of orange and green, tangy mandarin diffuses its sparkling citrus brightness alongside lime’s fresh tartness, while the spicy nuance of cardamom adds an intriguing sense of contrast. The lush heart of orange blossom absolute blends seamlessly with the juicy intensity of Sicilian blood orange and bitter orange. Taormina’s rugged beauty becomes most evident in the base of moss, patchouli, and musk, forming a long-lasting trail that both stuns and seduces.

It looks similar to Neroli Portofino, which they also said was Italian inspired. I wasn’t a fan of that one, so I hope this one is better! The notes certainly seem more interesting.

Since it’s an unusually hot day here for a February, I decided to get a jump on warm weather and wear this summer cheapie today. I’ve always loved this fragrance. The only thing is that it’s an eau de cologne, so the performance is not stellar. But I just re-apply with my travel sprayer. And for $20 at T.J. Maxx, I’ve got no complaints!

SOTD: French Avenue Lliquid Brun
Perfect fragrance to cut through the cold brisk winter air while out and about for church and brunch afterwards.

Does anyone know where you can get the new extrait version that just came out?

Versace Eros Energy! Needed a pick me up this morning! I only have a trail size! TGIF! perfume begins with lime, lemon, blood orange, grapefruit, mandarin orange and Sicilian bergamot. At the heart are notes from white amber, black currant and pink pepper. The base is distinct with notes from musk, patchouli and oakmoss.

I know this is sacrilege, but Aventus or any of its clones has never quite worked for me. But I like this one. Probably because it’s more of an inspiration or reimagining of Aventus rather than trying to be yet another clone of it. And it does the best job for me on occasions when I want to scratch that Aventus itch.

@William Feldtmose I never bought a bottle of Aventus, but I bought a 10ml sample sprayer, mainly because I was so curious about it. As I said, it just didn’t quite work for me, and the performance wasn’t good at all, at least not on my skin. And I’ve also heard that the later batches out now aren’t as good as the earlier ones, so that could be the issue. Again I know this is sacrilege, but I just feel like it’s overhyped and obviously overpriced. Especially when you can get several clones that come very close to approximating it and actually perform better…and for a fraction of the price.
SOTD- Friday February 20th: YSL Y Iced Cologne
I tested this yesterday, and while I liked it, I wasn’t super crazy about it. After a full wearing today, I’ve changed my mind…I really enjoy this one! I find the EDP too punchy and headache inducing for my liking. However, this flanker settles down on that sweet tartness and adds a smooth minty accord that does have an icy feel to it. I’d equate it to what Rasasi did from Hawas to Hawas Ice. It’s fresher, but keeps that original DNA around. After further testing, I get about 5 hours of solid projection off my skin and it stays around for about a total of 8 hours before becoming a skin scent. Definitely a far cry from the 12 hours YSL claims, but still pretty good for a fresh scent. This will be amazing in the summer, but I could see being versatile enough to wear year round in just about any situation. If you own any of the other flankers in the Y line, it is redundant, but it does have its own spin on the DNA. If you don’t have any others in this line, or you absolutely love the line and want to get them all, I’d recommend it.

After testing this, I agree that it’s overpriced. And if you really want to scratch that mint itch, I’d actually recommend the new Drakkar Bleu. It approximates this fragrance for a fraction of the price.
