I'm gaining muscle mass!
After a month of 3X a week strength training, I've gained 1.5 pounds of lean muscle mass. Due to my ongoing vertigo issues, I'm just using the machines at the gym instead of free weights, but it is working! How's your strength training going!

That looks great! Myself, I have been more of a lifter than a jogger for the past some odd years. I do legs Mo&Th, upper body Tue&Fri with walking, jogging and stairclimbing mixed in 6 days a week. It looks like that's a deadlift setup in the picture. Do you have anyone spotting / coaching you for your lifts?

@Herb Reeves I learned weight training basics through a course at my local Y back stateside some years ago. To work on my squats I am studying form using this book. It is very precise as to technique, so I use it although I don't adhere to the author's intense focus on getting bigger through lifting so heavy that you can only complete 5 reps per set.
Creative at-home workout solutions?
Hey, all. A chilly greeting from Alaska. It is gusting 65 in my neighborhood today, and temps have dropped to well-below freezing. I won't be driving to the gym, so my plan is to get in some cardio by running up and down our staircase plus planks and some knee-strengthening exercises. Do you (or anyone in the group) have go-to workouts for extreme weather days you'd be willing to share? I find that winter weather here makes for very inconsistent workout routines for me.

Murakami Haruki quote I like
I saw this quote in his book about marathoning and it sticks with me: “It’s weird, but at the end I hardly knew who I was or what I was doing. This should have been a very alarming feeling, but it didn’t feel that way. By then running had entered the realm of the metaphysical. First there came the action of running, and accompanying it there was this entity known as me. I run; therefore I am.” — What I Talk About When I Talk About Running (Vintage International) by Haruki Murakami

I did cautious walk/run intervals on the treadmill at the gym this morning. (Trying to work my way up to jogging 5K.) My intervals were 1:15 brisk walk, 0:45 jog x 10 repetitions. Went OK, no pain. For reference, cardio health is OK because I do brisk walks, elliptical and stairclimber for about 4-5 hours per week. I have used the Podrunner 5K, 8K and 10K podcast series in past go-rounds, but I tend to get shin splints.
