That butter debate
I do feel most of my posting is about food. I am sorry if I feel obsessed by food but it’s important 🤣 That being said I wonder if anyone has any idea on whether replacing butter with products like Benacol is beneficial? I have started to use it. The product claims to reduce cholesterol. I guess they cannot make that claim without it being true. However I hear that natural Is best and butter is natural. Any views and more importantly facts would be great to know. Friday today too so weekend might mean I treat myself to butter on my sourdough. Have a good weekend all!

@Nikhil Sharma I actually don’t know what my level is. Just told it’s higher than normal. Since the stroke I’ve been put on 80mg of statin. Up from 40 and Clopidogrel for life I’m told. I’m based in Manchester and the follow up doctor took a load of bloods last week and I’m booked in for A heart scan BP 24 hour monitor Echocardiogram ECG… that’s happening today. All in the next fortnight so I will take sure I ask. Probably frighten myself to death and be sharing my thoughts on here!! Thanks for initial reply. Food for thought .. excuse the pun!

This was from my discharge in Australia. I’m mortified. Work to do!
🫑🥕 Monday's tip - Crudités!
The benefits of eating more vegetables are undeniable. Crudités is a french appetizer of thinly sliced or grated raw vegetables often served with a dip or vinaigrette. Lately, I’ve started chopping up some raw veg as soon as I get home—carrots, cucumber, peppers. By the time I blink, the kids and I have devoured it all. It’s tasty, keeps everyone happy for a while, and helps protect against stroke. Simple, quick, and powerful. 👉 What’s your go-to healthy snack? Share below—I’d love some new ideas!

I’m obsessed with blueberries, raspberries and watermelon at the moment. I throw them with some Greek yoghurt and some mixed seeds. I read that watermelon being 90% water is great for hydration and has the ability to fill you up as it is quite dense. I’m convincing myself that’s the case after eating it!

@Malgorzata Wojcik I’m not a big fan of pear as a fruit but that blend with the sourness of cheese might help my palette! Going to give it a go.
How can we make this community incredibly valuable to you?
I've been thinking about things we can do to make this community really valuable to everyone that might want to slash their risk of a stroke. I think the alternate daily prevention tops will be a great start. Are there other things we can add too? One thing I thought about is having a monthly "Ask Anything" session when we can all go on and ask any questions or queries we have about strokes and stroke prevention. I'll do my best to answer what I can and between us we can probably answer most things The other idea I had was to do a monthly "Blood pressure check and intention setting session". We'd all log on to a video call and check our BP at the same time (or not if you don't have a monitor). We could then talk about what 1 change we're going to make that month to help reduce our risk (e.g. walk 8000 steps, or eat more veg). Over the course of the month we could post updates and keep each other accountable to our goals. What do you think? I'm sure you have better ideas then me and I'm up for giving almost anything a go!

I think group and community activities are good and would motivate each member. Also sharing tips on healthier eating. Diet is playing a part in my change of lifestyle. I’ve just cooked salmon for the first time in years!! Sharing recipes might be a good one? Here’s what I had… with a pile of veg https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/air_fryer_soy_and_ginger_51698

@Joel Adams that’s a great article. Reducing stress is a big part in my recovery.
Hello everyone
Hi there I’m Paul. I’m 57 and am really fresh on this stroke journey. I had a small stroke on holiday in Australia on day 2 of my trip. The care I received there was amazing. My ‘incident’ resolved itself all on its own and was told it was a small clot. My body dealt with it. However I need to make lifestyle changes. I hope this group may help me on this journey.
