Happy Father’s Day all! Hope everyone had a great day!
Planning
As a dad I’ve made it a priority to make sure my daughter has nutritious meals and snacks. I haven’t always done a great job of that myself. But I’m realizing more and more how much she is watching and if I don’t do a better job myself, I’m worried she will develop some of my bad nutritional habits. In the last couple months I’ve been doing a really good job of packing lunches for work which has really cut down on the bad snacking I’ve done and the poor choices I’ve made in the cafeteria at work. Snacking is always my weakness. What does everyone keep at home as some healthy, but satisfying snacks? I don’t think carrots are going to scratch the itch…

Don’t be a martyr
I’m a very driven professional and most days I’m in the office by 6am(I work at a hospital) and don’t get home until 5. I have 24 hour accountability for a 24 hour department. I have always had the mindset that taking time for myself during the day wasn’t possible or the right thing to do. I have to be present and visible as much as possible. Today I had staff meetings at 530am, so I missed my morning gym session because they don’t open until 5am. So, I decided to “sneak” over to our gym next to the hospital and get a session in over my lunch period. To my surprise, there were 5-6 of my colleagues there doing the same thing. It really put my mind at ease that I wasn’t doing something wrong and we should support people taking care of themselves. I have to stop being a martyr and take back control of my life and my health. Thanks for coming to my TED talk!
The Daily Strong Dad 05/20/24
Strong Dads don’t get “a case of the Mondays.” You’ll get your ass beat for saying something like that. Quick, name that movie! Training: Pay attention to your warm up before your training and during. Some light mobility work before hand won’t cut it if we’re going to get the most out of our training session. 1-3 light warm up / ramp up sets should lead into your working sets for an exercise. Nutrition: Since snacking is often the enemy, look into planning your snacks ahead of time and having options you can take with you. This will help prevent bad foods working their way in and mindless snacking before or after dinner. Parenting/Lifestyle: Acknowledge your wife and kids in something they do well or that your admire them for. Mindset: If a potential opportunity is causing anxiety, it’s most likely the one that is right for you and can lead to the most self-improvement.
