The Secret to Shooting a Tradbow Effectively
The secret of shooting a traditional bow effectively has much less to do with what method you use and more so to do with your mindset and you're cap your capabilities within your effective lethal range and practice! How many times a week do you shoot?

I try to shoot daily, at very least 3 good shots.
Legacy
I recently got into a polite discussion with a gentleman who was concerned that his daughter wasn’t gonna be good enough to kill an animal hunting with a traditional bow. His idea was to get her on game quickly and get her killing something as fast as possible so she can connect and he felt that the connection would happen if she put an animal or a bird or anything down on the ground then she would understand why she was out there- I argued the point with him and I said well- how are you gonna go about that? and he said well I’m gonna get her to use a crossbow - so my own opinion of that weapon and it’s use in archery seasons aside. - It’s easier” he responded. I said to him afterwards, when he was done arguing his points -what is the end state of your hunt if you’re hunting to always be successful in your mind? Is that success is solely based on bringing game home every time? -I don’t know how you’re gonna keep their attention because it simply won’t happen no matter what weapon system you use. “Success” that is- The other issue with that is is the difficulty of the platform and I said by design a crossbow just simply much much easier to take game with than a hand drawn bow, including a compound bow, and his fear of success was inhibiting an entire process that was being left behind quick success I said- will not often bring and appreciation for process - legacy- Legacy is what we (Jennifer) and I built the ethical predator around the heritage and legacy of actually hunting and using a weapon system that requires commitment, patience, and knowledge of woodman ship -animal behaviour- environment, ecosystem connection -right down to the practice f shooting and of sharpening one’s own broadheads, so they’re lethal enough to kill humanely. I wanted to bring to people a method and a way of doing something that wasn’t easy because it took time patience and practice. 🎯 It became something more than a hobby or a novelty thing and that’s the problem. I saw traditional bow hunting going down the road of novelty -“oh that’s fanciful” “that’s kind of cool” but it’s just too hard…a “struggle stick”

I understand both points on this actually and have struggled with both unfortunately with both of my kids. The toughest decision I’ve made parenting especially when it comes to hunting/shooting is stepping back and letting them take their own path and learn from their own mistakes instead of providing the easiest way possible for them so that they can achieve success.

@Grant Richardson yes sir this morning was the first day of our season, unfortunately didn’t hear a thing and very little sign.
Surgery
Everything went well, there was more damage than the MRI showed. Cleaned up a bone spur in the shoulder and also a tear in my bicep. Dr. Reineck told my wife he had to be a little more aggressive with the repair, but if I follow his advice I will be bow hunting come October!🔥🏹 Thank y’all for your prayers and well wishes, I greatly appreciate it!

Bowhunting Tips How much draw weight?
BowHunting questions answered! This is an older video from last year but I do believe one that warrants circling back on just because of this amount of questions I get in my mentoring and coaching sessions regarding bow weight and hunting weight, etc. I am condensing several questions into this video for all you folks who asked some that were related. Shoot a bow that you can manage under the conditions you'll be hunting under. This is bit longer so grab a coffee and enjoy! What is your draw weight scale for hunting? Hit the poll below! ⬇️ 🏹 And leave a comment and photo of your bow!

Playin in the back yard
I upped the ante from a tennis ball today. Today and tomorrow are the last days to shoot before my shoulder surgery on Tuesday. Thinking about getting a Sage or something similar @ 35#-40# to start shooting when Doc and PT give me the green light to start again. Minimum in MI is 35# for whitetail, just in case I don’t make it back to my longbow @ 55# in time.

I shot my kids 15# longbows after my elbow surgery with the hopes of being able to work myself into a 37# 1957 bear recurve before deer season a few years ago. Well I worked into it after a few weeks and eventually got into my 50# recurve before opening day. Stay with it you got this!
