This is something pops up from time to time - and I am a believer to a certain degree-where the species warrants control in Predator hunting. 🐺
They are an opportunist hunter whose diet is primarily rodents and small mammals but they will predate fawns and deer yarded up in some circumstances as well. 🦌 🐁
However the big issues is that eastern coyotes are a compensatory immigration species- so when one or two are taken from a habitat range - others will move in to fill that void left.
My biggest issue is killing an animal and not consuming it and yes I have eaten coyote I took years back.. it is possible.
I’ve hunted them for livestock control with a bow years ago when the sheep farm I assisted had issues and no firearm discharge in the area. For those thinking this is impossible to do due to the issue getting them into bow range- this is an adult male eastern coyote-
I mouth called him in after pulling over on the side of the road this week and carefully tucking myself in downwind of him and rabbit crying across the field - he was less than 15 yards on the ground when I barked at him to let him know I was there.
