🎯 Arrow Tuning (The Question Grant Get Asked More Than Any Other)
One of the questions Grant get asked more than anything else is about arrow tuning. Not broadheads. Not draw weight.Not gear brands. Arrow tuning. And honestly… I get it. With a traditional bow, tuning can feel mysterious - even frustrating.But here’s the truth most folks don’t hear enough: Good tuning isn’t about gadgets. It's about alignment. 👉 With a stickbow, we don’t tune the bow to the arrow. We tune the arrow to the bow. That mindset changes everything. 🏹 Grant Provided A Few Key Takeaways That Can Instantly Improve Your Setup: • Arrow spine matters more than most realizeSpine isn’t just stiffness - it’s how your arrow reacts with your bow, your draw length, and your release. • Bare-shaft tuning tells the truthNo feathers = no forgiveness. What you see is real arrow flight. • Left / Right misses usually mean spine issues Not bad shooting. • Vertical issues (nock high / low) Often simple fixes: brace height, nocking point, or rest height. • Small changes matterCut arrows slowly. Change point weight intentionally. Don’t rush it. Simple Action Steps You Can Take This Week: ✅ Step back to ~20 yards and shoot a bare shaft ✅ Focus on repeatable form (same anchor, same release) ✅ If your arrow impacts: ➡️ Right → spine is stiff → add point weight ➡️ Left → spine is weak → reduce point weight or shorten arrow slightly ✅ Make one change at a time, then shoot again ✅ Use a dark target face so you can clearly read arrow flight ⚠️ Something Important to Remember: When you fletch an arrow, it forgives small mistakes. Bare shafts don’t. And that’s a good thing. Bare shafts teach you to:• Slow down• Pay attention• Get connected to your equipment That’s what traditional archery is really about. Not rushing.Not shortcuts.Not forcing things to work. 👉 Alignment - between you, the bow, and the arrow. Get that right… and everything else starts to fall into place. Grant put together free training on arrow tuning for you. Watch it here on YouTube: 👉 https://youtu.be/YXZuZ4TqLBk

So yeah if you’re hitting knock left you wanna stiffen the arrow a bit- What I find people do as they either had way too much point weight FOC way too much and way too soon or they cut way too much back to try to stiffen it up fast and with carbon arrows by example carbons, stiff and really quickly even with small small cuts and you can get into big problems cutting back carbons way too quickly when your bare shaft testing…

@Tim Giles 💯 I really do try to simplify things. What happens with a lot of folks that come from a compound and I’m not saying you’re coming from a compound at all is that the Tech side of compounds and the fine-tuning thing is not as necessary unless you’re shooting target archery out past 40,50, 60, 60 m if you’re a hunter and you’re shooting at target 40 yards and under you -Need a good tune arrow and a good tune broadhead for that arrow not a target point or anything else like even tuning broadheads people forget when you put a broad head at the end of an arrow you’re essentially putting a set of wings on the end of the arrow so like I’m a very low-key minimalist when it comes to arrow tuning.
A good day
Good day in the woods. A few weeks ago I made my best shot on a game animal to date. It was a male spruce grouse. He was about 15 feet up a tree and the tree was about 12 yards away. The brush was too thick to get any closer. Perfect headshot. He was a couple feet from the trunk of the tree, out on the limb. A good clip and he was straight down out of the tree. Couldn't get in there to grab him but that's what my little dog is for. Needless to say I was pretty sure that arrow was gone. We looked for a little while but even Sadie-May couldn't find that thing. Until now! Went hiking through that area again checking out the new tracks in the snow. That right there is the beauty of a good flu flu fletch and stump head. Standing practically straight up and down. Cannot believe I found it.

@Gary Harris Thanks Buddy!!
Tracking.
Hit a nice buck. Tracked for close to 2 miles then lost blood. Going to have drone come look in the AM. Never not recovered a deer. Weighing heavy on me.
