But what I eventually discovered is something most of us were never taught. You cannot think your way out of a nervous system that is stuck in survival. Your body has to feel safe first. When I began to understand nervous system capacity and how our physiology responds to stress, trauma and life’s pressures, it completely changed how I understood myself, my emotions and my healing. And it’s something I now work with clients with because you can’t move forward if your nervous system doesn’t feel safe. You might recognise some of this… On the outside you function. You achieve. You hold everything together. But on the inside you might feel wired… or exhausted… or flat… or overwhelmed by things that seem small to others. Sometimes you can’t switch off. Sometimes you can’t switch on. You’re not broken. You may simply be operating beyond what your nervous system currently has capacity to hold.
