🚨💬 After 100+ Hours Testing Cold Email Tools and Systems 🧠💻 Here’s What I’ve Learned 👇
I’ve spent the last several months deep in outbound. Tried every tool that promised replies on autopilot. Some worked. Most didn’t. Here’s what I used: 🔹 Apollo — fast setup, questionable quality data, 🔹 Instantly — a bit of a learning curve but efficient, but speed alone doesn’t get replies 🔹 Clay — powerful, very in-depth lead tailored information, enrichment, and nourishment Apollo gave me the volume. But success came only after figuring out deliverability, warming, and how to write like a human instead of a bot. Instantly helped me move fast, but I quickly learned that automating bad copy just leads to more silence and eventually I realized cold emails won’t work unless they’re genuinely tailored. Not fake personalization. Not {{firstName}} and {{Company}}. Real insight. Real relevance. Clay was genuinely impressive. The flexibility, enrichment options, and integrations were on another level compared to most tools. You could build some serious logic into your outreach process. But it came with a tradeoff, it was definitely harder to learn than Apollo or Instantly. The potential was huge, but it took more time, more testing, and more technical thinking to get results. Even then, I found that while Clay could gather incredible data, but it still needed something else. to me. A strategy to turn that data into a real, personal reason to start a conversation. That’s when I started building AI-powered icebreakers. Automated flows that scrape actual context —> job changes, recent posts, company shifts —> and use that to open a real conversation. Now I use Make.com and n8n to fully automate the process : 🔹 From research 🔹 To writing 🔹 To sending 🔹 To follow-ups And if I’ve learned one thing that applies no matter what tools you’re using: 👉 Remember, it’s all about THEM, not YOUR product. That shift in mindset made the biggest difference. If you're trying to make outbound work but keep hitting a wall, drop a comment I’ll share what’s worked and what definitely didn’t.
From $11.1K → $3.6K → $10.6K: How I Bounced Back
After four solid months bringing in $11,100/month, I lost my biggest client. Poof... $7,500/month gone overnight. Suddenly, I was sitting at $3,600/month - barely enough to breathe, let alone build. I started asking myself all the hard questions: Should I get a job? Am I even cut out for this? Am I focused on the right things? The pressure was intense. But instead of panicking, I went back to the drawing board - and turned to the one person I knew could help: Jay. Jay encouraged me to rebuild my CRM from scratch. So I deleted all the cold, unresponsive leads and laser-focused on the people I already knew - people I have built trust with over the years. I started farming instead of hunting, and after a couple months of deep conversations, one perfect client emerged: A niche I knew inside and out + a pain point I could solve better than anyone else. Only problem? The proposal was a beast. Super nuanced. Complex. Hard to explain. Enter: Jay’s Wizardry I hit up Jay for a consulting session. He walked me through how to simplify and sharpen the offer: - Clear language only - Cut anything confusing - Frame it for max value and zero friction We refined it together until it landed perfectly. After a few back-and-forths with the client, I closed the deal at $7,000/month for 6 months. That brings me back to $10,600/month - but with way more leverage and a scalable model. What Changed? This isn’t just another client… This is the beginning of a repeatable system I can scale with automation and AI. No more one-off consulting projects. Now I’m building templates and tech that will grow my impact and revenue. Jay didn’t just help me close a deal - he helped me shift my entire model. And I can honestly say: Joining the Insiders Program was the turning point. If you’re in a dip or just ready to scale smarter, now’s the time to double down and sharpen your craft. Jay and his team are the real deal. The Insiders Program has been life-changing for me, and Jay has built a world-class team that shows up and supports. I’ve been around the digital marketing space for over a decade - I’ve seen all the smoke and mirrors. This isn’t that.

Brilliant, really like the in-depth self-analysis definitely a lot that can be learned in this.
Has anyone used personalization on their outreach before?
Curious if anyone here has experimented with personalized video or website-based email outreach? I’ve been looking into a tool called Churpy that automates a lot of it, and I’m wondering if it’s worth it. Would love to hear how others are doing this (or if it’s all hype).

Hey Maya, I’ve found that out of all the databases, platforms like Clay return the highest quality lead info 🧠 which makes personalization much easier. Lately, I’ve also been using AI automations that dig deep into a prospect’s background — pulling from LinkedIn, Apollo, and even Clay — to generate personalized icebreakers. It helps me sound like I really know them, and it’s definitely helped me book more calls.

Hey Charaf I've done many cold calls in the USA 📞 I've done them over the phone without using AIs of any sort as I feel like that can harm your reputation as a brand/business if the prospect you call can easily tell 🤖❌ To them it may feel very sloppy as they're having a "conversation" with an AI, but from a business standpoint I can definitely see as to why some people may be getting into AI callers 💼 The best way for me to scrape phone numbers was to find the prospect's business and name 🏢📛 get this data which is essential and then put it into Apollo 🔍 and 8 times out of 10, Apollo was able to give me a phone number that directly connected to the prospect ☎️✅
