HRT- Too high or too low?!
A little bit about me- early 40’s, perimenopausal for years and recently began HRT in August of 2025. I’m on the estrogen patch and oral bioidentical progesterone. How do I know if my dosage is too high or too low? 🤔 My provider’s guidelines is to prescribe based on my symptoms alone. What are the symptoms if estrogen is too high or low; and if progesterone is too high or low? I’m starting to not trust my body and question everything. 😢 My PCP recommended doubling my estrogen dosage and I got mild headaches almost daily and felt more moody than usual. I also doubled the progesterone as prescribed and couldn’t sleep like the previous dosage. I normally take my progesterone during the day since it causes me to feel anxious and not sleepy at all. I got tired of sleepless night and rely on magnesium glycinate. How long should you try a dosage before it feels unbearable or worse? It feels like hormone medication is an experimental game. I’ve never had a journey like this before and feel overwhelmed when I’ve got other health conditions to manage (e.g., constipation, acid reflux, joint pain, and orthopedic injuries). Help!!! ❤️🤷‍♀️

Hi, Stephanie. I can relate to what you are going through. It took me more than a year to find the combination of estradiol and progesterone that works for me! When I told my doctor that any change in estradiol (different brand or forgetting a dose) caused me massive 3-day migraines followed by bleeding, she determined that I needed more progesterone. I now take 300 mg progesterone daily in combination with a .075 mg estradiol patch and I feel much better. I was briefly taking the .1 mg estradiol patch but after I spent an entire day crying, decided that was not a good idea. It is all trial and error until you find out what your body needs. Basically if you feel almost like your old self, you know it’s right. I am very sensitive to the estradiol, so I cut my patches in half and apply 1/2 patch every other day to avoid spikes in estrogen. I also apply them to my bottom instead of my abdomen so they will absorb more slowly.
Perimenopause anxiety explained + simple ways to calm your nervous system
Anxiety is one of the most common symptoms we see in our perimenopause patients. Around 60 percent of women in perimenopause report experiencing anxiety, and over 40 percent experience heart palpitations. Hormonal fluctuations during this time can trigger your fight or flight response and intensify anxiety symptoms out of nowhere 🫠 Hormone therapy is often the most effective way to address perimenopause related anxiety, but there are also some really helpful supportive tools you can use day to day 🤗 ✅ Nervous System Support: 👉🏻 Magnesium Glycinate + L-theanine ✅ Vagus Nerve Activation: 👉🏻 Ice Pack Hack: Hold an ice pack on your neck or chest for 10-15 minutes. This will quickly reset your nervous system. 👉🏻 Physiological Sigh: Deep slow breath in through the nose, at the top of the breath do one more quick inhale to fully expand your lungs, and then slowly exhale through your mouth. Repeat this 3-4x. 👉🏻 Quick grounding tools: Sour candy or a Boom Boom stick can sometimes help interrupt panic or driving anxiety in the moment 🙏🏼

I’m now taking 300mg progesterone with .075mg estradiol patches. The extra progesterone worked wonders for my anxiety.
Issues with testosterone and Synthroid
Hello Ladies. I recently added testosterone to my HRT cocktail. I am also hypothyroidic and taking Synthroid. The testosterone is giving me heart palpitations and jitteriness that I was not prepared for. A little research showed that testosterone increases free T4 and reduces TSH, which is why it feels like my Synthroid is suddenly in overdrive. But Estradiol does the opposite! I am stuck in this hormonal conundrum and meanwhile my heart might explode. Has anyone experienced this before and how do I find balance? *Also worth noting that the Testosterone is non-negotiable because my menopausal brain fog was unbearable (I quit my job because I no longer felt qualified). Can anyone help me sort out this mess?
Weight Gain
I’ve gained about 15 pounds in 10 months. I eat approximately 2200-2500 calories, walk 10k-14k steps in a day, have a desk job, eat 150g of protein a day, 25-35g of fiber and mainly a whole food diet. I also strength train 3 times a week for about 45 minutes each. I’m on progesterone, and an every other day 1/2 pump of testosterone cream. My sleep has improved this past year but could also keep getting better. I’ve been managing my stress through meditation, breath work and sauna. I’ve cut high intensity cardio out for now. I’ve also recently been put on thyroid medication as my T3 and T4 have been a bit sluggish. I still can’t lose the weight and I’m losing my muscle definition 😩. What else can I do to get a handle on the fat gain and muscle loss?

Just curious… why are you taking progesterone without estrogen? Estradiol may be the anti-inflammatory you’re missing.

If you’re not eligible for HRT or your doctor is not offering this treatment or you just didn’t get around to it yet because everything is so overwhelming, try acupuncture! I’m surprised more people aren’t talking about it. The results are cumulative so you will need to go 1-2 times per week at the beginning and then you will be able to space your appointments out further like once every month or two. Acupuncture can address the vaso-motor symptoms like hot flashes plus anxiety and digestive issues without medication. An added bonus, it’s a very relaxing and “alone” activity. To me, it’s worth every penny just to have a room to myself for 90 minutes! I usually fall asleep promptly and wake up feeling like a bowl of spaghetti. It’s blissful.
