They Recalibrated. So I Did Too. 😏
A brand reached out about a collaborative marketing and strategy partnership. I started preparing for the meeting and built a solution I planned to demo.
Then…their situation changed and they had to recalibrate.
So of course I was disappointed for a second. But then I thought… okay, cool. Just because the original plan changed doesn’t mean they suddenly didn’t need coaching on finding the solution to what made them reach out in the first place.
So instead of getting in my feelings and throwing the whole opportunity away, I pivoted. Guess what they STILL were interested in the demo 😏
Now instead of this having to be a long-term partnership, it can became a consulting situation where I build what they needed, help them get it set up, build the onboarding system, and let the solution do what it was supposed to do.
And THAT is the lesson.
Sometimes we hear “no,” “not right now,” “we had to change direction,” or “we can’t move forward” and automatically think the whole opportunity is in the trash 🚮
But is it?
If they reached out in the first place, there was a reason. There was a problem. There was a need. There was something they were willing to spend money fixing.
So next time, ask yourself:
Can I still solve the problem another way?
Maybe they don’t need you full-time.
Maybe they need you as a consultant.
Maybe they don’t need a long contract.
Maybe they need the app, the system, the training, the onboarding, or the strategy.
Sometimes the opportunity isn’t gone.
You just have to stop looking at it the way it first showed up. Sometimes the pivot ends up being better anyway — less time, more flexibility. 🙌🏽🔥
Just something to think about 😉
