Winter Solstice Ritual is happening in 4 days
Winter Solstice December 21, 2025
Winter Solstice is on December 21, 2025. This is the time of year when the days are the shortest and we receive the least amount of energy from the sun. It also comes just after the moon has moved through its new and dark moon phases in Scorpio, where the moon is debilitated. We may be feeling more vulnerable and sensitive, along with a heightened sense of intuition. This is a powerful time to go inward and honor the inner light. Ways to celebrate the Winter Solstice include lighting candles, spending quiet time in reflection, journaling, setting intentions for the year ahead, and resting more deeply. Join me this Sunday, December 21, at 10 a.m. Mountain Time for a short ritual with meditation and intention-setting for the year ahead. If you would like a deeper understanding of the Winter Solstice energy, you can watch this video. How do you celebrate the Winter Solstice? Please feel free to drop your rituals or a photo of your altar in the comments below.

Debilitated Dark Moon 12/17 & 12/18
The moon is on its final part of its waning cycle and entering the dark moon on December 17 and 18, in the sign of Scorpio, where it is debilitated. When the moon is at this point in the sky and during its waning phase, we are receiving the least amount of its energy. Because the moon represents our mind and emotions, we may be feeling more insecure or disturbed than usual. In our culture, we often think that when we feel bad, we need to fix it, but this is actually an opportunity to understand the more profound emotional need. Once we can get to the root of the feeling, we can fulfill our own emotional needs. Once we label the emotional distress, we can then figure out what we need emotionally. It's a good time to ask ourselves, "Where am I at?" Then, when we can answer that, we can ask ourselves, "What do I need?" On December 17 or 18, sit down and allow yourself to feel your deep emotions, and go into the dark parts of yourself. Can you allow yourself to sit with uncomfortable feelings without trying to change or fix them? Once you've identified where you are emotionally, like not feeling heard, harboring self-doubt, or discounting your intuition, then write it down on a piece of paper. Put the paper in a porcelain bowl and burn it. Once it has all turned to ash, pour it into a plant or offer it to the Earth. Always start and end with a prayer or form of reverence. You can watch this video for a deeper understanding of the energetics of this Dark Moon into the New Moon Phase.

Waning Moon Phase: 12/7-12/19
As the moon is waning toward the dark moon, we begin to lose her energy. It's time to turn inward for self-reflection. We may notice that as the moon wanes, our thoughts may be more disturbed or unpleasant. This is an opportunity to check in with ourselves and see where we're at and what we need. It is our responsibility to fulfill our own emotional needs and not rely on others to do it for us. The dark moon is an invitation to understand what we need to feel good, and that emotional need is what we use to set our intention on the New Moon. Journal about these questions: What's not feeling good? What support would allow me to feel better?
