Teaching/coaching progress
Y'all...
Once you learn something, reinforce it by teaching it to someone else.
There's nothing like trying to explain a move to someone else to make you really pay attention to the finer nuances of it.
Still leveling up my own skills while enjoying the process of teaching what I've already learned.
My latest passion project with skating has been getting a dance skate group class going at a local rink.
I did a few dance skate workshops previously that were very choreo heavy. They were ok, but in reading the room, I felt like people could really use less choreo and more grooves to start out with.
So I decided to run Groove skate workshops once a month for the next 3 months, to see if interest will grow.
Was nervous because only 2 people were signed up until a few days before.
I would have still run it, but was worried the rink wouldn't feel it was worth letting me have them there if people didn't show up.
Ended up being 8 skaters by the day of class.
Not bad for a first attempt at this type of skate class at the rink, I'm considering it a win 🏆
Fingers crossed it continues to gain traction.
When there is a group of skaters who are more comfortable with this type of movement in general, organically introduced to incorporating musicality in a fun and no pressure class, my goal is to re-introduce more choreo classes.
We'll see!
